Lets talk about Commuter mods/add ons

The CBR125 has a fairing I believe no?

You're right it does, a small one. I think if I can find a suitable small to medium screen that isn't a days work to take off, I'll get it. sounds like it will make a big difference.

a GPS that has bluetooth and can handle your phone is handy

This setup sounds great, more expensive alternative to a simple iphone mount, plus is not having to have your iphone bare to the elements.

one negative I can think of is your phone isn't charging, maybe a problem on longer trips?

Barely enough gas? For 200 kms?
You can go farther with a 125 vs a 600ss

Don't know about a 600ss, but, no, the range on my 2007 cbr125 was not great. The tank was only 10 litres with no reserve, (I think it's more now) and it would do under 300km on a tank, depending on city vs highway.

I never ran it dry, but the fuel light would be on well before I made it to Parry Sound on those trips.

This sounds about right, it says average 2.68L/100km

Best commuter mod is a lockable hardcase. Briefcase in the bag when riding, helmet, and jacket the bag while in the office.
Big hassle to walk around carrying your helmet or worse someone peeing in it if you leave it locked to your bike.

+1
A hard case is the best. You can keep a change of clothes inside, and change into them when you get to the office. Dress shoes, ironed shirt, a (dress) jacket, even a (dress) suit. Or the laptop. Then, the helmet stays inside the hard case.

For commuting from the 905 to donwtown TO, that is the best mod.

Do you guys know of a hard case that is removable? attaches under the seat without/minimal hardware?

I've seen some large windscreen on Isle of Mann racers, do anybody know where I can get those?

Sure, I get that, but I've yet to see a hard case that looks anything other than horrible on a Monster.

No the phone is not charging, it might not work depending on how much you use it. I rarely use my phone while riding so the charging is not really an issue. Plus I have a mophie battery charging case, so I get 125% extra battery when I turn it on.

Music is on my GPS via a 32 gig sd card, and the GPS is wired to the battery. Either way, you have a helmet to charge as well if you have a speaker system. For me it is a luxury, I can live very happily without it if I am camping a few nights with no place to charge the helmet. The phone I would turn off if away from power for a while to keep for emergencies.

There are some small wind screens for the S2R that I have seen when doing a google search of your bike. Something like this, despite being small makes a huge difference:

You want to commute, not go on a fashion show. :) For no luggage option better get a Scooter, lots of under seat storage. The windshield and topcase looks bad imo.

For mounting bags SW- motec makes better mounts that you can remove if you're not using the bags, unlike the bulky mounts for Givi.

Usually, you screw a mounting bracket to the bike. The hard case attaches to this bracket, but it is removable with the key.

This is the one I have now, a SHAD model SH-50 - Hecho en España (made in Spain).

Well, I guess the choice is out there there - either looks or functionality.

If all the rider cares about is looks... well, don't get the case, just strap the laptop to the back seat with a net, and off you go to the office. Just don't come back here and post "My laptop fall off the bike on the highway".

Which is why I suggested the Kriega kit; not a hard case but is completely waterproof, won't come off the bike at speed but easily removable when you want to take it off and it leaves nothing behind, and they look good.

Hard cases are VERY functional, no question. Some bikes can do it and look good, the Monster isn't one of them.

This is hands down the best mod I've done on my ninja 500. 2 bucks from Walmart and I can tell the time without having to pull out my phone or whatever.

If you copy the img link and paste it here, it shows the pictures and is much easier to look at quickly rather then the links.

I like the hard cases, and Marcos mentioned, they do remove and pretty easily. You just have to install a mounting bracket.

Flip plate for the 407? That would fall under the commuting part of the question I would think...

I have the RAM Mount X-GRIP phone mount, with weatherproof USB outlet from princess auto. When it rains I don't mount my phone, it is in a lifeproof case already so if it does start spitting its not going to hurt. Full out downpour I just put it in my pocket.

BT Reciever I like the SCALA Q2, not the PRO just the regular one. I find the Q2 Pro doesn't have a good volume. Have not tried the newer gen but the Q2's around used are pretty cheap.

Lockable hard cases are best, currently i'm shopping for some myself. The price hurts, so for now i'm still rocking a backpack.

I got a flat once, so since then I carry a repair kit and inflator under the seat along with my tools and tire pressure gauge.

I've read varying reviews on the X-Grip with many having their device fly out and onto the ground on a good enough bump. Your thoughts?

I've had my iphone in there last year with survivor case from Griffin, I hit a few bumps where it seemed to move a bit, but never a concerning amount. My thoughts if i hit a bump hard enough to smack the phone out then I probably have more to worry about! That said it may not be the mount for everyone, if I had my iphone without a rubberized case I don't think the results would be as good.
