Random Kijiji Seller

As someone who had to pay his way through university earning $12 an hour part-time (after being rejected for OSAP) - I loathe you.
(my car was a ****-box too... couldn't dream of owning a bike at the time)

Well, not really you per say, but the loathe is strong. :D

Hahaa wellll in about a year I will probably loath people that were in your position ie. debt free...while im trying to pay back my loans. The awesome circle of life. :banghead:

Out of curiosity, a question to the OP: if you are in Durham, would you go all the way to London for a bike?

I would expect you could find one closer to home... are they really that scarce?

I have driven to Cleveland, St. Paul, MN, Rome, GA and Indianapolis to pick up bikes.

I bought my bike in November with my OSAP money. They sent me $3000 more than I needed for tuition. Usually I spend any excess on partying...so IMO buying a bike was a good choice. :headbang:

lol at the end of a year, the whole term or just a semester? that's a lot unless you're paying like 20g/year for UWO.

My tuition is around $8500 and they gave me around 11 something.

when they split it up I ended up with 3g's extra first semester. Did the math realized I was covered for the 2nd semester so I figured id try to grt a good deal by buying before winter.

If you are interested in the bike and serious try again. As someone who has listed higher priced items on kijiji, you get all kinds of ridiculous and fraudulent offers. People say they are from Brazil, the middle of the St, Lawrence river, the Philippines, Wisconsin, etc. and they are all asking for more pictures more info, and your lowest price. This guy was probably sick of all those bogus buyers wanting to use pay pal to pay for the item after their "agent" inspects it and then ships it to whatever ***** hole country he is calling from. As someone who has put up with dozens of these bogus offers I say give him another chance if you are truly interested. In my own experience with KIjiji any thing asking more than a $1000 gets the BS offers. All the stuff I was selling for under that got are serious offers.

From what side? I've paid for top ad placements and it brought in even more idiot responses. Maybe if one had to pay to respond to an ad, but that would go against the whole spirit of Kijiji. I should have saved some of the replies when I was selling my boat. Talk about losing hope for humanity.

Oh please don't get me going about the responses I got about the boat I had for sale. I got to the point where I was sending emails back threatening to find and disembowel the SOB if I received another email from them. We could trade stories about the requests I received. The scam involving an inspecting agent and getting a pay pal account was the best though.

You know you have to pay that back right?

I'm sure he does, but it's fine because if you have to finance, better to finance at 0% until you graduate.

As a seller that's no way to respond to a potential customer..... If he can spend 30 seconds on that reply, he could've spent another 30 answering the questions

People spend no effort in communication, both sellers and buyers alike

Btw, great reply to the ad OP

Well, but did you do it for a honda cbr250?

I drove to Sandusky, Ohio last year to pick up my scooter, but it is a model never sold only in Canada, and sold in the USA in limited numbers. Kind of a unique situation, there was no other way to get it.

But for a honda cbr250, I would think we have enough supply in Toronto, or the 905 area... I am surprise that's not the case...

if i put something up on Kijiji i make sure everything is there answered already on my Kijiji ad, so when i get some ****** ***** asking me questions usually i do not reply because the answer is already on my ad. they just dont know how to read the WHOLE AD.

lol

My average reply when selling on Kijiji is "F*** off."

I agree with Macs on this. All the pertinent information is on his ad alongside with lots of photos. You should assume responsible seller to have their uvips and if not its 20$ and a quick trip to the MTO.

In my opinion, you're asking redundant questions. I would reply begrudgingly to you, but I understand why the seller decided to just toss you to the curb. Just another tire kicker in his books.

Now why would he assume he has the UVIP? Why would one think he's a responsible seller? That's why there's a feature in Kijiji to have follow-up questions?

OP specifically stated that he's from Durham so he would like as much info as possible prior to travelling to London. Because he asked 3 questions, he would be labelled a tire-kicker?

I bought my bike from London(i'm from Scarborough) and believe me, I asked more than 3 questions with multiple e-mail follow-ups. And the seller had a pretty damn good ad with lots of info, but I felt I need to know more. I don't understand that logic where if a buyer is asking lots of questions, they are tire-kickers and not worth the time?

Plain and simple, seller is a douchenozzle who was too lazy to type out a meaningful response, and lost a buyer. If he was looking for a quick-sale, he could've had it if he took 3 minutes out of his time.

I don't disagree that the seller could have handled it better, but try understanding his point of view.

There are a lot of tire kickers and dreamers out there and frankly an email as written out by the OP certainly doesn't seperate himself from that pack.

Not that I'm saying the OP is a tire kicker.

I don't disagree with you that there are alot of daydreamers that ask out of frivolity.

But how do you weed out which ones are serious, and which ones are not? People have different approaches...you just can't assume that person isn't serious.

Personally, I treat everyone equally so if they have questions, then answers will be provided. One would think that a response like the op experienced, the one not serious is the seller.

The guy was a prick, but I don't really disagree with his way of thinking.

The bike is desirable, well priced, and looks to be in good shape. Should be a quick and easy sale. Your initial communication painted you with the "pain in the *** brush". I mean, you actually said "trying to get as much info on the bike as possible".

All that being said; his response could have been a little more, shall we say, Elegant.

I don't think the op did anything wrong. I want all the details when I'm looking too. If I got that reply he'd get a return go eff yourself and I'd continue shopping. I have less than zero patience for entitled ******** like that

i don't disagree with anything you guys are saying. i agree that there are a lot of tire kickers that are coming from kijiji. and from a sellers perspective, you want your item gone quickly and without hassles.

my email was polite, informative for the seller as to my location, not offensive in asking for a lower price without seeing the bike or anything else in that nature. i have sold multiple parts on kijiji and other car forums and have come across those tire kickers that usually deter a seller from having fs ads. but i treat everyone with respect until they show me other wise.

like i said, it's not the fact that he doesn't want to deal with me, it's how he handled it.

like what lator-illa said, it's hard to weed out the bad ones. its part of wheeling and dealing on a public website.
