Panel suggests 10 cent per liter gas hike to fund transit.

Rob Ford would have cut the salaries of the parasites working at TTC.

And this hike is not to pay for transit...it's to pay for the waste from the Liberals.

I'm pretty sure rob ford would be agianst this.

And people wonder why companies are cutting their workforce.

I have no transit available in my area except a Go bus stop that I couldnt even tell you the schedule of. Only thing i know if if I had to take it to Toronto it is roughly a 2 or 2 1/2 hour trip for a trip I can do in about 45 minutes myself.

Why would I support this?

No need for a tax hike. Get KPMG/Deloitte/whoever to do a full audit of the TTC. There's the money. Redundancies, silly contracts, union heavy agreements, etc. I know some folks that worked there and it boggles their mind that the buses even run half the time, let alone service Toronto.

All public transit should be free. There should be bicycle lanes on the side of EVERY road now and in the future. Piss off.

Oh, and I would never take public transit because I'm better than them, lol.

Considering current cost of gas and that it fluctuates +/- 10c a liter every month (montly +10c), I don't think many will feel that difference. Personally, I take transit every day, so if that money will actually go to the new TTC downtown relief line or Scarborough extension, or whatever else that will improve congestion, I'll vote for that tax. Unfortunately, considering how our Ontario government operates, they may just take those several hundred million dollars and give them to someone for cancellation fees or whatever, like those gas plants.

Of course you'll vote for it... you're voting for the rest of us to subsidize your transit  I don't work downtown, I don't go downtown, I want nothing to do with it.

Idea is ridiculous. If you take transit, you pay for it. Driving a car is already way more expensive, so you're getting a deal regardless. Pony up the extra yourself.

I visted UK, FRANCE and ITALY about 1 year ago. Transit is really cheap compared to here.

Senseless to compare Toronto to cities of old Europe... its an entirely different place. Their infrastructure is completely different, and always has been. Small roads, small cars, densely packed communities, smaller geographical areas etc. Who commutes to Paris or Rome 100-150km for work on a daily basis? That stuff is unheard of there; meanwhile the 400 southbound is packed tight for a hundred kilometers every morning.

To top it off, transit is already "cheap" here. My wife could save about $200/mo by taking public transit every day to work... but you know what? She doesn't want to, and I don't blame her. If we're gonna work hard, we're gonna take some comforts too. Getting into your own car and commuting in peace and quiet at the end of the day is something we don't mind paying for. Those who take transit are ALREADY saving money though, so I see no reason why us drivers should have to foot even more of their bill.

Considering income tax and sales tax are 30% or more higher that would only make sense?

Is it really cheaper?? Looks about twice the price?

In London, Prince Charles’ one-stop trip would have cost him £4.50, or $7

At 30% tax you get a LOT more in France and a lot of other european countries. Free university education is included. Healthcare is better.

Makes you really wonder where my tax $$ goes

I would certainly hope they get something!

But I wouldnt use France as an example of a model country, unless you want to pay almost 50% tax.

The government is planning an extra €3 billion ($4 billion) of taxes next year, which will push up the overall tax take in the economy to 46.5% and make 2014 the fifth consecutive year that the tax burden in France has grown.

But our underprivileged and immigrant communities in the gta can't afford the rising cost of transportation. Everyone should pitch in to help subsidize them. And they all need housing and old age pensions too. Why limit this to ontario? this should be a nation wide tax. Priorities people, we're a global community!

:love2:

Based on my current mileage per yr. , my lawn mower/snowblower/stuff, and my boat (which doesn't operate on any roads but gets taxed) a .10 per liter hike will cost me personally about +- $850.00 , I could just come to downtown and load some of these 416'ers into my car and drive them around.

Equalize the property tax rate in Toronto to the same rate as surrounding cities? Instead of the current 0.8% to 1.3%

This!

How is it possible for a high park semi that's "worth" twice the price of my detached Gta home pay less in property taxes when the volume of services is at least 5 times as much there as it is here? Why the hell should my tax $ go to keeping their services convenient and efficient?
