Small grinders?

Dremel tool.
I have, good for arts and crafts maybe, but it seems pretty wheezy for heavier work.
Doh! Of course. For some reason I was fixated on electric.
The next step up from a dremel is called a die grinder

Here's an electric model that is quite a bit more powerful then an air grinder. It is also much quieter. It's downside is its bigger, but overall it works very well.

Personally I use a pneumatic angle die grinder with quick change 2" discs
Price is always tempting but at the end of it all you have a shop full of garbage. It's bad enough that I have a household full bargain appliances.

On the grinder or the disc system?
Grinder you can get anywhere, PA, CT, or real industrial suppliers...Same with the disc systems, 1/4" shank, different types of discs...Ive seen them at PA, I picked some dics up last time I was at Aklands Granier
1/4" arbor, and then the disc of your choice just 1/4 turns into it

I was wondering what die grinder you're using, are you happy with it and minimum compressor required. Is there anything proprietary about the cutting, grinding, burring, sanding attachments or is it just 1/4 in. shank good to go? I've been a sheet metal mechanic going on 3 decades and have never even held or paid any attention to these tools. Sad.
I have a Husky one, but I am in the process of shopping for a snap on just because I am trying to convert all my tools from decent cheapy stuff to fancy snapon. The Husky does fine and is probably $80 brand new....Im lucky I have a 20HP and 10HP compressor at my shop that makes more air then I will ever need....But any compressor will run them, its just a matter of how long you want to grind for....Some smaller compressors can make 120psi but if you hold the grinder on for 30 seconds it will drain the tank, and the compressor will struggle to keep up with your demands
I've cut about six chains off with it.
Might get the job done but is sill a hobby tool with weak power when compared to real industrial stuff...If you want a real rotary tool look into Foredom. That is what professionals use, a lot of tuners that do porting use them

I have a no-name-brand die grinder that has done well for me. Mine is straight, not angled. What's better, depends on what you are using it for. (Or get both)
I have the biggest compressor I could find that would run on a regular 110V receptacle, and it has a 32 gallon tank. Receptacle pretty much limits continuous power to around 2 horsepower, and I think it is really a bit less than that. It won't quite keep up to air demand from the die grinder, but with the size of the tank and the compressor running, it will go long enough to be useful.

Yes, will get both @ mid grade quality. Shame I recently bought what now appears to be slightly undersized compressor to air up tires and blow dust around. Going to plumb an air pig in to get me over the top. This is only to get in some tight spots on rare occasions, have 4.5 and 5 for regular duty. So it's settled then. Thanks people.
