Getting a bike safetied from home?

Unless, of course, you're the person BUYING a bike that received that 'favour' inspection, in which case you've been screwed.

That is why it's anything BUT a grey area.

This is the problem with these types of safeties.

You bought a bike, you know what you're doing, bike is all good but you don't want to get failed over an integrated tail light or a smoked windscreen or whatever. Go for it, I'm down with that too.

The problem is when some unsuspecting buyer ends up with a "safetied" bike and someone gets ripped off or hurt or worse.

I won't get into my reasoning because that will open a can of worms, but ok "rev" whatever you say. :)

It's a big grey area regarding safeties and warranties but there are a lot of factors involved.
If he's just doing you a favour so you can plate the bike on the cheap, then you can't expect much and quite frankly, you should be tankful.

If he turned around and told you the bike needs A,B and C to be done, charged you for the work and you later discover that there was more to it than that, then you have every right to be upset and you can take it further if you choose to.

How would you feel if you bought a bike that was safetied then discovered that there are issues that require attention and money? Or issues that result in an unsafe ride? Would you feel ripped off?

Would you pursue the issue further and maybe report the shop/mechanic to the MTO if they refused to help?

GTAM idiots open their mouth and got the guy in trouble, so now in turn he is giving his finger to anyone he doesn't know
I tried time and time again to get people to be quiet. His intent was to help people. Was he doing something wrong?...yes. Did he deserve to get punished?... yes. Did he deserve to get his back stabbed by people he helped?...NO!!!!! I blame folks on here thanks to all their chit chat. If you think it might be illegal or you are in the slightest bit unsure... ask a buddy, DON'T ASK A PUBLIC FORUM. Would you go on a website like this and ask 'dude where do I get some cocaine?' NO YOU WOULDN'T unrelated topics but same general idea.

If someone knows a guy who can help the op out ,please pm him, imho an open forum is not the place to talk about this kind of stuff.
Here is what I know of Ted Rose:
-Has been in the industry forever
-Straight forward guy, service for cash,no bs tricks
-Has helped out more people than any other shop in the gta
-Has scratched more wheels than anybody in the gta(lol)sorry Ted it's true, but hey scars add character right
;)-I believe him to be a genuinely good guy,and that's a whole lot more than I can say for the majority of shatheads that seem to plague the southern ontario motorcycle industry
-Licensed motorcycle mechanic who deserves a lot more respect than what some give him credit for on this board....

Almost forgot-his harley's gangster:cool:

Your all a bunch of idiots for bashing Ted in my eyes... this thread proves it....

I've heard nothing but awesome things about him. Never went to him but he's helped out more people than I can count. And this is how people thank him. Bikers are supposed to watch out for one another.... Now I am seeing that American bikers treat each other better than you guys are treating your own peeps here.

Agreed... Its not a grey area. Its illegal and with reason. But really if you ask around you can find someone who would be willing to safety without even looking at the bike. Typically if you are asking for an illegal safety, you know whats wrong with the vehicle. But the law is the way it is to protect the newbie or the one who just doesn't know mechanics.

Moral of the story.... Don't be a rat!

I think this is why revrandy has his knickers in a knot.

Of course I'd take it further, it's the same thing if you buy a used car from a dealer and he just gives you a safety paper without doing the work.

Had a friend be a victim of a bad safety. Old style gixxer chain came off on the way back from a safety. He got 17 stitches and crashed the bike. New rider, trusted someone he shouldn't have. Figured it cost about 4 grand (work, time off, didn't claim it) for this lesson.

I bought a used bike last year privately from Kijji that had a Rosey Toes safety. The bike shouldn't have passed in it's condition when i purchased it.

No big deal for me, the bike was used and i knew what was wrong with it, i already had the price dropped because of what was wrong with the bike. Someone new to this hobby/sport or born with two left hands and it's a completely different story.
