Getting a bike safetied from home?

Since Rosey Toes doesn't come to people's houses to safety bikes anymore, does anyone know a trustworthy mechanic in Toronto who does?

I live in the east end of Toronto and I just bought a used bike, only problem is I don't have a trailer or even a hitch to take my bike to a shop. Not only that, but the weather is too bad for me to get a temp permit so I can ride the bike to a shop.

Why'd he stop?
GTAM idiots open their mouth and got the guy in trouble, so now in turn he is giving his finger to anyone he doesn't know

Wow there is a shocker. Its 100% against MTO regulations and was only a matter of time before he was clamped down on. There are MTO guys on forums too. I used to send people to him as well. I seriously doubt any mechanic will risk his inspection license to do it unless maybe he is a good buddy. If you find someone I would keep it to yourself or the same thing is likely to happen.
In Ted's defense I cant blame him for stopping he could get a $200 fine for every cert he has written without a corresponding w/o number attached to it and written on the back of the shop copy of the cert. That would be ALOT of $200 fines on certs he was charging $60 for.Thats just one reg he was breaking they likely could have bankrupted him. The MTO enforcement dudes are brutal. If they can fine you they do. Period.

So you are breaking MTO rules by doing a safety not at your shop? Why is that? If you have all the tools and paperwork necessary, what is the problem?

If it is not in the shop then you don't have all the tools.

In order to get a license to do safeties the MTO requires an inspection of the premises and certanl things must be in place (head light aiming equip, precision measuring devices, lift, etc) The inspector also requires a letter from the local govt stating that the zoning is correct. Only then will you get approval and can buy inspection books. These books are issued to approved shops ONLY not mechanics. They must be used in the premise where they were issued ONLY. The shop copy must also have a corresponding work order that number must be on the back of the safety even if no defects found. At any time MTO Enforcement can do an inspection and request both copies.
By doing the safety outside the shop you are breaking that reg, Being that he doesnt travel with headlight equipment as well as measuring equipment then he is also breaking those inspection regs. Then i seriously doubt that he is generating invoices/workorders so he is breaking that reg. Not to mention the accounting issues/tax collection.
Like I said its a BIG no no. Thats why you cant find people lining up to do it.

I've 2 safeties @ Canadian Tire out in the parking lot with zero tools.

The last safety I had done on a bike was at a GM dealership. Doubt the guy had ever done a safety on a bike before....but he did have tools LOL.

Go to Home Depot and purchase a 8 foot 2x4 piece of wood. Now rent their van for $20
Use the van to take your bike to your favorite shop. Get safety, take the bike home, return van...

I am glad. If I was still in Toronto I would have personally reported Ted for his practices. He shouldn't be in the business of safetying motorcycles if he is not prepared to do it properly. I keep waiting for the day he gets his *** sued off because he did a back of the parking lot safety when the bike was unsafe.

its people like you that ruin it for everyone else , some of us dont have all equipment to haul a bike around and its easier to pay a guy $60 to come to your house and do it then go rent all the stuff then take it all back , the customer still gets a safety done like the customer wants and gets his bike checked over to make sure everything is good , and for the proper tools 99% of garage dont use any proper tools like headlight equipment when they do a safety so whats the diffrence , if the guy coming to your house does a full bike check to make sure it is safe to ride then hes doing a safety

I'd much rather go to Ted than an uptight shop that won't safety my bike due to some BS like a chipped signal lens or chopped rear mudguard.
