A friend passed this on to me. It's an email he got from Fawaz regarding some bikes that are being sold by a third party:

"Hi guys,

It's just been brought to my attention that someone is selling a fleet of old racer5 bikes that we had sent for scrap metal.

Neither me or anyone from Racer5 have anything to do with the sale of these "motorcycles". I gave them away of free to be use for scrap metal.

Please do not purchase these bikes for anything other than scrap metal.

They were stored in a uninsulated sea can with water wetter in them for two winters, so it's highly unlikely that there is a good engine in the bunch.

These are old off shore bikes that were run into the ground and replaced with the Honda CBR125s. The bikes for sale are not indicative of the quality or strict schedule of our regular fleet.

Please pass the message on to anyone that may be considering purchasing these.

Thanks!
"

I felt it was important enough to be posted in General, to make sure that anyone who could be effected is informed.

If they run fine why not buy one to use if the price is right?

Because Fawaz felt that they weren't in good enough shape to be sold for any sort of bike related use. That speaks volumes about the shape that they were in.

What kind of bikes are they and what price point are they being sold at? JW cause I'm in the market for an upgrade right now and don't want to waste time on these.

These were no-name 250cc single cylinder bikes made in India. Believe me, if you are looking for something "good", you will not buy one of these by mistake. It's impossible.

They have been frozen for two winters now. DO NOT BUY them. Not to mention that they were given free for scrap and this guy is trying to make a quick buck using Fawaz's name. Pass the word. We all know he is an honest upstanding dude. Dont let this guy soil it.

That's why I posted it here. I don't like it when this sort of thing happens.

I've reposted it via facebook as well

What about Racer 5 beer?

They were 4/5 size import motorcycles that can't be registered and you would have a very difficult time finding parts for them. To be honest, I think there's better support for Chinese pocket bikes in Canada and they may be built better.

Someone posted this up on Kijiji already. No one I know has been contacted/has seen an ad for them so far.

Looks like the ads were taken down now

Still can't believe anyone would actually fall for that...maybe I'm too optimistic.
