Fire Department bills me for nothing

That happens all the time. I regularly get people throwing stupid comments about my profession and when I tell them they are being ***** I get banned.

The rule of the board is you can insult people's race, country, sex, religion, profession, but if you tell them to **** themselves when they do, thats an infraction.

Modeled after the House of Commons. You can say any derogatory thing you want but call someone a liar and you get the boot.

If we could only issue tickets for that, we'd be rich.

So well just continue on billing ...

300 empty parking spots and a big red truck in the driveway at the old digs.

The firefighters near my new place are really good at renovations.

I believe Miller and council considered toll roads (specifically the DVP), but rejected the idea in favour of the PVT since it was cheaper to implement. It only applied to residents of Toronto. The MTO simply piggybacked it on plate sticker renewals, replete with legal threats. Too bad Ford didn't keep it to fund that sweet ferris wheel and monorail. What did we get instead? Permanent gridlock, smog and a skyline of ugly, ugly condos. Awesome.

There was a reason I asked twice, because I don't recall him in favour of that

Hey all, in July I hit a deer going southbound on the 410 before the Derry exit early in the morning. I ended up in the middle of the road while my bike ended up in the ditch. A passerby saw me crawling towards the shoulder and called 911. Minutes later, a tow truck, an OPP cruiser, ambulance and 2 fire trucks arrived on scene. I was quickly checked by the paramedics and released on the spot with only sprained ankles, knees and wrists from rolling after being thrown from my bike. A firefighter had asked me for my information which I had ended up given him, as I also did with the OPP officer.

I don't have collision coverage, and I didn't report anything.

A month later a bill shows up totalling $922 for the service of 2 fire trucks (1 pumper, 1 rescue) for 1 hour each.

They didn't even help me with anything, why are they charging me? Can I get my insurance to argue with the ministry of transportation? This really isn't justified. It doesn't help that I'm scraping by each month. How can I afford to pay this massive bill, for "help" I did not enlist?

922 huh? Did you at least get carried around by the fire fighter and cpr from the medic? lol... just saying... considering the bill next time you should definitely take advantage of the services. At least a ride on the fire truck lol!

I think bills for fake calls, totally justified.

If you make a call and no lives are in danger, just property, justified

If someone else makes the call and you are the victim, unjustified. Its rendering of a service they are prescribed to do. It's the same with ambulances (at least from my experience) if in the opinion of the doctor, it was life threatning or dangerous to the patients health to not be transported by ambulance no fee, if it's a broken bone and you easily could have gotten a taxi or whatnot...then fee. Makes sense to me.

Ambulances do charge for the ride to the hospital, I don't know if they charge for transfers from one medical centre to another but to the initial medical centre they do. I've received bills a couple months later from the medical centre themselves for the ride.

Yup, I have been hit with $50.00 charges for ambulance trips; one in my city of residence and one not. In both cases it was due to MVA, in which there was no way I was getting to the hospital myself.

Yeah that's about right. The actual cost is over a hundred, but OHIP pays that and we pay about 50. That is a FAR cry from losing two weeks or more pay because someone else called the fire department.

I was issued a similar charge for a recent ride to the hospital, i claimed it through insurance and they paid for it. When i called the hospital to ask WTF, they advised that it is an administrative charge from their end, it is not an EMS charge.

As for Fire parking in grocery store parking lots and the like on duty, can't they buy their groceries before they come into work. Why are they using taxpayers dollars to drive the "aparatus" to the store and waste time at the store? Also what happens if they are involved in an accident on the way to the store, 1 we are down an aparatus, 2 who pays for that? Most don't know that Toronto Fire Fighters are issued 8 hours mandatory sleep time, must be nice to sleep at work.

Fyi, if the attending doctor at the base hosptial deems your ride in the ambulance a critical call, you dont pay anything.

As for the comments about the fire truck, if the truck is involved in an accident a spare truck is put in place. And insurance covers the damage of any vehicle involved in an accident, just like all of you on the roads.
And i dont know where you get your facts about 8 hours mandatory time of sleeping. Lol.

Sure on the night shift we can retire after a certain time to sleep, but with call volumes wayyy up our sleep is interupted regularly. A night shift could have us up at 11 pm, than 1 am, 2 am 3 am and nothing till 5 am.
Or if its a working fire, were up all night till the morning crew relieves us.

Dont think it's all lollipops and puppy dogs in our world ...

$50 for ambulance cost is nothing. its subsidized.
i was in an accident in the states their ambulance cost was about $500 + all the other fees sent my way.

im not justifying the cost here. and op's situation is different but we got it good compared to down south.
