Awaken Your Taste Buds Group Ride/Meet Up

i worked at a restaurant and a bbt place before so i totally understand what you are saying. but just like i said, as much as i understand the financial situations in the industry, it's fundamentally wrong to make the tips mandatory. you cant expect people to always give you tips just because you live on tips instead of the wage. like i said, it was originated as a way for us to show the appreciation of your good service and i like it to stay that way. if you want my tips, bring on your good service. period.

For tables that have more than 8/10 ppl, i dont have problems with the mandatory charges though cuz of the exact same reason that you mentioned.

Yeah no totally don't expect tips to be given out without having earned them

No this event is by invitation only. We just like to post the pics and details yo show off and make you jealous! Lol!!!

Haha of course its open to everyone! You are more than welcome to join us! Only if the first round of beer is on you!

np Jinniwind, I appreciate your sassiness...I can buy your first round (but not if you're riding!)

btw, Brazilian steak was mentioned....Red Violin (Danforth and Broadview) is pretty good.

people, back to the topic, what do you guys feel like for our next gathering?

so far there are a few choices that have been mentioned: Chinese Hakka, Colombian, Sharwama (to the OP of the thread that inspired this thread), Brazilian steak, Italian and Burger (good burgers... McD is off our list for now until Eljay's next Birthday).

Ok guys, i'm restating your choice here again. Since chinese hakka and brazilian steak were mentioned by relatively more people, lets narrow it down to either of these two for our next gathering.

Note that the date is flexible. Its not a weekly meet up, at least yet, so it doesnt have to be next monday. We will find a time that fits the schedules of most of us.

Just make a command decision for the group, if you're authoritative about it, they'll follow ;)

Don't forget Colombian! just cuz we are few does not mean we don't want to try it!

Agreed, Lead us you fearless leader with the pink flower on your head!

Oh no i told those boys that i wanna ride to newfoundland and nova scotia next summer:(
Just watch out for the moose in Newfoundland on the highway...
Many tourist think they can drive like they normally do, and end up getting killed or seriously injured from the pesky wildlife.

Yeah I'll side with "a fella tray you"

Mmm roasted pineapple...

In for brazilian!...wait, that came out wrong

I was in S. America a few months ago and I have to say the steak in Argentina was better than the steak in Brazil. Not trying to pick a fight if you are Brasilian.

But for finding an overall spread of great food, the Paulistanos and the Cariocas definitely know how to set out a great feed! If we do go Brazilian, I will sadly miss the chance to get another REAL caipirinha (I'm M2 - and most bars in Toronto don't stock cashaça). Man, no one should ride or drive after drinking one (or more) of those :confused2:

Not yet had the chance to visit Colombia :( What's the best spot in TO try out some tasty comida colombiana?

Copacabana is a Brazilian Steak House. What was the other choice? Red Violin? Tudo bem.

I did a few summer waiting tables and I loved it.

I think the mandatory tip for 8 or more is there for two reasons: 1) to protect the servers from the fact that the kitchen gets overloaded and slows down while the wait staff bears the brunt of the blame, and 2) because large groups on one bill tend to have cheapos who short the bill as well as those who can't do the math on adding 15% tip and 13% tax, so the pile of money comes up short while no one person at the table has to take the blame.

Europe has a completely different take on food services. Service and tax are often included in the price, and the wait staff gets paid a professional wage. Tipping is nominal and symbolic (rounding up or a couple of Euros) but appreciated.

What if they request separate bills, is there still a mandatory tip?

Hey Ian you're absolutely right. Steak from Argentina is waaaayyyy better than Brazilian steak but you have to be a real carnivore to appreciate the difference! Be careful about Colombia. Once you see the women there, that's where you'll want to stay lol. As for comida colombiana downtown, afelotreyu would know. I'm more knowledgable about the west end.

BTW I'm down for copacabana!
