Acceptable price for a sports bike and differences between them?

I ended up picking up a used CBR600. Couldn't find a used Daytona in that price range at that time. Now I see there is one in the For Sale forums. Only if I had waited longer!!! Oh well. But I'm pretty happy with the CBR. Very fun bike to ride!

What are those pricey problems exactly? I know they have **** rectifiers, but is there something else I should know about?

I'd better tell that to my mates who've been tracking their 07s for a few years now. They'd best pull them off the track and buy a new bike. What do your months of experience tell them they should buy?

LOL @ Xtina.......my 06 GSXR was the best bike I have ever owned in almost 30 yrs of riding. Fast, smooth,fast, quiet, insanely fast, and anvil reliable, oh , and fast. The brakes were inadequate for repeated braking from mental speeds (200+ kmh).
 
ALLLLLL I gotta say is "Value Is In The Eye Of The Beholder". I may pay premium dollars for a specific bike that appeals to me yet you wouldn't pay a cent.
Decide what year/make/model/colour you'd like and go from there. DONE! next.......
 
Only real problem with the k6/k7 is the rectifier/stator. It's a solid bike and like someone said crazy fast
 
I've had my 06 750 for 2 years now and haven't had a single issue.
Stop hanging around Jamie, he's a bad influence on you! Lol

He was talking about a 1000, which is known to be quite the animal in that generation.
A 600 is fast but not crazy fast.
 
Very good thread. It's good to see different opinions about SS bikes out there.
 
I was speaking with a mechanic at Rosey Toes regarding my choice in upgrades; they told me that Suzuki's GSXR750 has $$$ draining problems compared to the RR and the R6/1. I didn't ask for specifics and I trust these guys as they've been doing most of my work for me and always charge me for less than I think they will but besides the "gixxer on fire" thread that I read, what other well known problems are there?

The regulator/rectifier issue is only a problem in certain models, not all.
The 06/07's were notorious for having this issue an some later models as well.
There has been a recall to replace the r/r and it's no longer an issue.
When/if it comes time for me to do mine, I will relocate it and that will be the end of that!
Other than that, I haven't had a single issue with my GSX-R...
I own a 750 and recently purchased a 600rr for a track bike, the difference between the two in power is unreal.
To be fair, I only took the rr around the block because it has no insurance/street fairings. Still got it up to speed but the difference between the two in power is definitely noticeable.

This is just an assumption, but my guess to people having big issues with gixxers (other than the charging system and butterfly valve) is due to the type of people who buy/ride them. They are probably the cheapest SS you can buy and seem to appeal to a lot of squids and guys who don't care about doing proper maintenance to their bike.

From what I've read they're pretty popular with amateur racers if that counts for anything. Any bike you own and maintain properly shouldn't give you any serious headaches.

I definitely plan to maintain it properly (as I have for my GS, sadly I'm still fixing some problems from the previous owner, such as the old chain being short 2 links for some odd reason :@).

I was doing some more math and found that the Ducati EVO 848 used and the Triumph 675 used actually do fall within the same price range, I wonder how feasible they are for maintenance. I'm finding my maintenance costs average around 200 a month (keep in mind I bought my GS when a lot of **** needed changing, specifically tires and chain), what do you guys pay on average per month assuming you don't do everything yourself?

I have a 2009 RR and I don't spend $200/month on Maintanence. I clean the chain every 500 kms (which is once a month). And requires an oil change once a season for me.
I guess i'm not a heavy user...

The EVO 848 might be high on insurance. I really wanted that bike but I stopped cause of the insurance. Was almost double of the CBR600RR.
The Daytona 675 was also higher on insurance but not double. I just couldn't find a good used one even though there is one decent one in the forums now...
 
My SF 848 is $875, but the Evo was banned from my insurance company... I laughed... then forked over 875 cause thats a deal.

That being said, an evo/daytona I think is around the same level insurance wise as any 600/1000 SS. If you are willing to pay the insurance for a gixxer 750 I doubt the increase is that much to an 848, and might be lower for the daytona
