Squirrel caused Motorcycle Crash - Dufferin + Davenport

Was driving along on Sat. Saw guy lying near corner of Regal Road school. Bike on its side and front wheel spining away. I asked the guy if he was ok and he said it was a squirrel that caused him to veer and lose control of the bike. I didn't laugh but thought if a squirrel came near me while I was riding, I would (sorry) run it over. I am not risking my life to save a squirrel's.
As motorcyclists we have to think about how easily an accident can hurt us permanently.

I am sure you all know.

The easiest thing to do in this situation is to slow down. I once came upon a squirrel and decided to do an emergency manoeuvre (at 60km). He was running to the left, so i swerve right. Would you believe he does a 180 and tries to go back in the direction he came from!? Squirrels being squirrels i guess. I manged to avoid him luckily, cuz all I remember was that if I had run him over with my front wheel, while leaning, for sure I was going down. With these animals it's not always obvious what they're going to do, but you have control of what you can do. So a piece of advice, always try to slow down first to avoid hitting anything otherwise there's a good chance you're going down.

RIP Chip (aka Mr Squirrel).....He well never be forgotten and well always hold a acorn in my heart...rest in piece Brother...

GWS rider.. Next time, pancake the sucka!

what kind of bike was this guy on?

Squirrels... natures little speed bumps.

Racoons however... they suck.

I never swerve because animals are unpredictable. Also if I were a squirrel, its easier for me to dodge something that isn't moving all around the place but is going in a straight line. I will slow down or brake hard in a straight line. 2 squirrels this morning playing in front of me.

Different for larger animals though, not sure what I'd do.

if you go fast enough you can cut that animal in half. Otherwise better to slow down. I think the M1 manual says to run it over. Been a while since I seen the M1 maybe some new riders can chime in what the M1 says.

Almost dumped the bike emergency braking for a pack kof 4 raccoons that came out of nowhere last night, on woodbine @ lakeshore.

I've heard the rule of thumb is if it can be eaten in one meal hit it, otherwise try and avoid it.

On the other hand, always avoid turtles! These sneaky animals can flip a bike!

if the critter is below your front axle, run it over and if this over your axle ...lock your elbows and straight arm the sucker ahead on

Slow down, and when you are about to hit him gas it... this way you front wheel wont have as much weight on the ground when you hit him.

I had a pigeon fly at me as I drove under bridge last week.. It's was either him or me.. Gave that sucka an 80km/h headbutt..
GWS pigeon !

I went right through big *** turtle on my first long distance ride. We were on our way home, last day - were really cooking it on Manitoulin island to make it to ferry. I saw it too late and decided to gun it. My bike had couple of dirt/blod splats but no other damage. Guys behind me - OMG, they said it exploded like can of soup under 18-wheeler, most of the guts ended up on their bike. I was riding my old trusty GS500 at the time and I have no idea what saved me - turtle was really big, I'd say almost a foot high and respectable length.

:lmao:they're so unpredictable too... u might swerve to avoid it going left and next thing you know it changes its mind and darts back the other way. I caught the tail of one once, I felt bad, but I never swerved. It just darted out from no where I had no chance to slow down.
