Mayor Rob Ford open to referendum on casinos in Toronto
Referendum
Since the Ontario Lottery Gaming’s plan for a casino in Toronto was approved by the Ontario government, there has been a lot of talk about where to place the casinos. There has been speculation that the choices have come down to the Exhibition Place and Ontario Place.
The mayor said he supports casinos regardless because they create “well-paying jobs,” but noted that he favours Woodbine as the place to establish a casino.
“I’m up for anything, if you want to put it at Ontario Place or anywhere else, I’m open to the idea,” said Ford. “Casinos are going to stimulate our economy, they’re going to create jobs and that’s a fact.”
When asked if he supported a referendum, the mayor responded that he has never opposed a referendum and has always been open to one. “I think they should put a couple of questions on a referendum.”
