Mayor Rob Ford open to referendum on casinos in Toronto

Referendum
Since the Ontario Lottery Gaming’s plan for a casino in Toronto was approved by the Ontario government, there has been a lot of talk about where to place the casinos. There has been speculation that the choices have come down to the Exhibition Place and Ontario Place.
The mayor said he supports casinos regardless because they create “well-paying jobs,” but noted that he favours Woodbine as the place to establish a casino.
“I’m up for anything, if you want to put it at Ontario Place or anywhere else, I’m open to the idea,” said Ford. “Casinos are going to stimulate our economy, they’re going to create jobs and that’s a fact.”
When asked if he supported a referendum, the mayor responded that he has never opposed a referendum and has always been open to one. “I think they should put a couple of questions on a referendum.”

Mr. Rob Ford - as fat as you are, and how much of an ignoramus you can come off as at times, you are doing something right - and will have my vote for the next election should the casino be built in TORONTO and not in the GTA.

EXHIBITION PLACE !

instead of building a project that actually produces stuff ..like a factory...no we are building a project that'll destroy wealth.

Destroy commoner's wealth but boost gov't wealth.

It's a stupidity tax

I hope table limits are closer to $5 - $10 and not $15 - 25+ like blue heron/rama etc. Makes it more accessible and regular people can hang out longer and enjoy themselves, not just moneybags.

Mayor ford is a nerd, where was referendum when his ass was screaming "subway, subway'" we should have had an official casino years ago. CNE has one every season still, doesn't it?

You do realise he wants to have a referendum on a few different issues including Subways.

The man isn't perfect but what he's faced with are people on council who sometimes vote and work against him out of spite and not out of the best interests of the city. Don't believe me? How does Paula Fletcher vote against the recent city workers contract when every other member of council votes for it AND the Union and it's membership ratified it.

LOL. Go ahead and have a referendum on subways, that's the easy part. Now, are Torontonians willing to *pay* for it?

Wouldn't be an issue if the TTC was actually run like a business and costs were cut as well as fares were increased to meet the actual cost of providing travel across the city.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. I say bring the Casino on, it will create jobs and add much needed income into the subway fund. Currently, if people want to gamble they have plenty of alternatives, some not even requiring them to leave their home. You can't protect people from themselves, no matter what McGuinty tells you ;p

A factory? We have plenty of empty factories as is. We don't have the industry to build here because it's too damn expensive! $30+/hour union wages, benefits, pension, increased corporate tax rates.

Even if the city did build and run it, do you think we can compete with Mexico/India/China which pay their workers $5/hour no benefits/pension and pay no corporate taxes...

As for oil refineries, they cost in the billions and take years to build.

I dunno..referendums to me are kinda like asking a patient what type of surgery he requires..
