oh how the dread of that day may come for some...

Hahah.. that's sad.. I would never sell my bike for a mini van!

There's already an SUV in the driveway. The Humanity!

Happy to say i never had to get rid of my bike when i started parenthood.

BUT i did have the minivan and it was the greatest thing i could've ever bought.

Just get yourselves fixed.
The many benefits include:
1) No mini van needed.
2) No drooling money suckers to ruin your fun for 20 years.
3) No pre-mature aging when they get knocked up by a Cambodian gang member or arrested when they steal their first car.

The downside:
1) Nobody to force you into a nursing home and spend all your money.
2) No contribution to the overpopulation of the planet.

Darren, Darren, Darren....I'm sure (or, I hope) that your post is laced with more than a hint of irony. I shared many of those sentiments up until the age of 40 or so. I didn't marry until 42 and had our son at 45. I couldn't be more convinced that becoming a father is the best thing that has happened in my life. Maybe you're young, although I will admit parenthood isn't for everyone....

This is sad, although it hints a little of lack of planning/foresight.

On the minivan front, I'm 28 and have no kids, and I kinda want one! I used to borrow my folks' van to go skiing and mountain biking all the time. Apart from the way it drives (Chev Venture, meh), and looking like a soccer mom, and a little bit of extra gas, I think it's the cat's ***.

SUV's have nowhere near the room inside, and apples-to-apples sell for a lot more. I could take the ego hit.

Hope to keep at least one motorbike around when I get married and eventually have kids. I want a classic bike someday - maybe keep that one around? I think that getting out and clearing my head will be even more important then.

Minivan = cheap mode of track bike transportation.

Some question why ride a bike in the gta, the same could be said about why drive a street car making more than 120 hp.

If you knew me you would know I see things in an empathic fashion but I convey a sarcastic devils advocate style of banter. Always meant in a joking tone.

42 here and no kids planned, but I of course don't have any negative feelings towards parenthood and quite like some of them.

As for it being the best thing in your life, that's your paternal instinct talking. You're programmed to feel that way. :)

Had to get the "mini van" 19 years ago....twins arrived.

Nobody needs a Mini Van for two kids.
Nobody needs it for one kid.
I have two kids and have two CARS.
I just laugh and laugh when my friends buy Mini vans.
If it don't fit in the car, it aint going. That simple.

Besides, most people who own mini vans cannot even begin how to park them.
I hate seeing people taking up a spot and a quarter in the shopping mall.
They just don't care to take the time to park properly.

Oh, and quite frankly, if your wife makes you sell your motorcycle because you're going to have a kid.
You've married the wrong woman.

This is one of the best posts I have had the pleasure to read.

I'll second that!

I hear that constantly from others (usually married guys)... telling me the bike is on the way out... my wife and I have never even spoken about selling the bike (unless its to buy another bike), It must be stifling in that kind of relationship.
