But better than riding in shorts.

Not really. Jeans evaporate the moment they touch asphalt. So at the end of the day you won't just have the road rash and scars, you'll also have jeans glued to the bloody scars with your own blood. Don't ask me how I know.

I always wear helmet, jacket, gloves helmet.

If I'm going out of town and know I'll be doing 80 km/hr or better, I'll try to wear riding pants as well.

I have a few different kits of gear, just from buying used and scrounging at sales. I have a full textile set (Joe Rocket jacket and pants), a full textile mesh set (Tourmaster jacket and Joe Rocket mesh pants), and just found a used perf leather suit.

The perf jacket does seem flimsy, but the mesh pants aren't too bad w/ padding and cordura at the knees and ***. I tend to fry in the black textile jacket. I've heard that perf leather breathes well enough that you don't really need mesh gear.

Sometimes certain brands and cuts will fit you best - sort of like helmets. I'm tall and thin but with big shoulders, so only a few brands seem to fit (Tourmaster and sometimes Joe Rocket.)

Helmet, leather jacket (cooler weather or highway), airflow textile jacket (summer, city or short ride), boots, jeans (city), armoured textile pants (highway), and full length gloves. Surprising how many people I see without gloves.

Leather pants with sliders are part of the kit as well. Buy the best you can afford. It will last longer.

How is that jacket? Would you recommend it? I was thinking about buying one for the hot summer months hi viz as well.

Fortunately I can't give you a review of its protective qualities but yes, I would recommend it. The armour is reasonably substantial, for this type of jacket. Just hard foam, but it has good coverage. The airflow is excellent but I've even worn it down to 0C, with the thermal liner in it. Makes for a good combination on those cold spring mornings, when you know it's going to be more than a little warm in the afternoon.

When it is warm out
A-star New yorker perf leather jacket with joe rocket leather pants
Shoei RF 1100
Tecnic gauntlet glove
Daytona evo sport boots

When it is cold
Joe rocket 2 piece textile suit

I hate textile for normal riding as the wind drag bothers me and I find it tiring.

Sounds good, and where did you find the hi viz one if you don't mind me asking? I looked at a few stores and don't remember seeing hi viz.

Arai vector 1 helmet
alpinestars leather gloves w/ carbon fibre knuckles
joe rocket Kawasaki Leather jacket
Puma leather riding shoes
Usually I just wear jeans, but I am planning on buying leather riding pants either from , or joe rocket

Right off the rack, at GP Bikes. I swung by one Saturday morning, on my way to Shannonville, and picked it up.

You can always get a mesh jacket if you want minimum protection but comfort during summer, or a well ventilated textile riding jacket. As far as jeans go just basic jeans, better than nothing (shorts). If you go down without boots, say bye bye to your ankles, better to sweat a bit but be protected than ride in running shoes and then forever limp if you go down.

i would argue - from experience - regular jeans are equal to nothing. at 60km/h they shredded away instantly on impact and i was picking gravel out of my knee when i got home (road rash). I still have the mark on that knee... this happened in 2008.

i wear full gear all the time now, kevlar jeans might protect from road rash, but they'll give you zero impact protection for when you actually slam into the road.

at the bare minimum i would suggest wearing some kind of combo that gives you good protection on knees, elbows, and wrists/balls of hands. if you fall thats what you'll be landing on first... its just reflex. if you like your ankles and spine then boots and a back protector would also be nice.

Yeah I've been hearing that about jeans often lately, and I always ride in jeans. The problem with riding in (motorcycle specific) pants, for me at least is most of them are always kind of tight fitting, uncomfortable and always ride up on my boots when sitting on a bike. What kind of pants do you ride in? Are they comfy?
