the Bumpstart

Ya 2nd or even 3rd. Some bikes though.... typically big twins.... NIGHTMARE to bump start.

Inline 4's I always had no problem bump starting with a dead battery.

Even though the RC isn't a big v-twin, I can't get it to fire at all.

I've had to bump started my Gixxer twice. If the battery is fully discharged the fuel pump won't pressurize the system and in my experience the bike won't start. What I did was pull all none essential fuses reducing the draw on the electrical system. After that it started after a short push.

Oddly enough its not just FI bikes that might not start with a bump, my 1973 RD350 had to have a full battery to start with a kick or bump, no battery, no spark.

Same deal with my KTM.....all of my 4 cyl bikes bumpstart easy...not this pig.

that's cause the design hasn't changed since the 40s. and just as reliable as a 1940s bike made in russia.

And you came to this erroneous conclusion how?

Had to learn how to do it in April and my retarded battery was holding its charge some days and nothing at all on other days.
After I was stuck a couple times trying to bump start in the rain (not fun!) that's when I went and got a new battery.
Haven't had to do it since then, but at least I know how to do it.

I'm glad some people here have mentioned that the twins are more difficult, cause I full understand how bumping works. I've done it to all my standard vehicles hundreds of times but I was having a hard time getting it just right for the bike.

It worked pretty good on my VF500F when I left the parking light on once. I will never try it with the ZX11 though, that's just asking for a broken leg lol.

Yes I have done this many times, back in the 70s & 80s, but as far as I understand things today, if the bike has a CPU, yr fekd, because if the battery is flat, it cannot power the CPU, so no fuel gets delivered, and no spark either.
Don't ya just LOVE this modern technology:(

Battery construction is a lot better than it used to be, generally if you find yourself with a flat battery nowadays it's either your fault or there's a new electrical short somewhere.
