As you all know, i ride a Ninja 250. Im planning on moving over to Jevco and collision is about $400 more then without collision coverage. Is it worth getting?

TIA

what's the value of your bike?
Well its a 2010 Ninja 250 thats been down twice (cosmetic damage only, but all fixed up). I bought it for $6200 (Includes frame sliders, and other bike stuff) NEW last year. Probably worth the regular market price right now, $4500-5000?.

I'd say no. Trying to ever collect on a collision policy is just not worth the hike for the next five or six years, unless you're over 35 or some other arbitrary age. However you might consider comprehensive, depending on what it costs.

$400 is a lot extra for collision. I would skip it. For me, it was only like an extra $60, so I kept it. Mind you, I pay $800 for the year.

I'll be paying around 1800/year with collision or 1400/without.

Yes, 400 does seem like a lot. I think i'll skip it as i can probably repair the bike myself for less then $400 if i happen to lowside again.

If you can ride for 3 years without smashing your bike you are laughing. If you total it this year you will cry. Do what you want.

Seeing as how you have been down twice, I would consider getting it. If you total the bike, you are ahead, if you merely drop it, fix it yourself.

Having ridden alongside with you once before, I wouldn't say you need it. Using your bike as a battering ram against another vehicle is a completely different story than lowsliding.

Save yourself the $400, and buy me a beer.

good post, I got my bike totaled a month ago, I had collision, funny thing is that It wasn't part of my plan to get hit so I am just glad i wasted my money on collision and now I have a new bike

LOL, I've crashed way too often, and my insurance doesn't know a thing about it. My bike is worth more to me if it got totalled.

Oh, and please don't ever claim if you lowside again. You did it already, and I heard of another guy who did it too. Makes me cringe. People don't realize how cheap bikes are to fix if you do it yourself, ESPECIALLY the 250.

I do regret reporting my first lowside, i was nervous as it was my first accident EVER (bike or car). Didn't know the hell to do. Second time, i fixed it myself, was a piece of cake!

I've got about a week to think about it. I'm sure i ride differently when i'm soloing, probably more aggressive.

If it was a cheap old beater and the difference in rates was significant, then maybe there's not point. But your bike is still worth over 4 grand. For the equiv. of about $35 per month, you might as well. If you crash it, you're going to be kicking yourself for not taking it.

What is your deductible? I bought collision insurance with a $1K deductible simple because I wanted protection if my bike was written off. Small accidents/claims I'd rather pay myself then claim and have my premium increase. I pay less than $100 a year for this coverage. Seems a good deal to me.

$250 i think, as there was no different in $250 or $500

+1... 400$ is well worth the peace of mind. You never know what kind of situation you may get yourself into.

If you do get collision, you will be able to get a new bike in a write off, but since that would be your 2nd at fault claim in 2 years or less good luck getting a policy again. You will be such a high risk its ridiculous.

only way you should get collision is if you can't afford to fix your bike if you crash. most likely you will pay more for insurance over the next few years anyways if you crash and make a claim, then you would if you just fixed it out of pocket.
