drunk idiots messing with my bike

Ok to use "reasonable violence" to detain someone! Yah sure Turbo.Have you forgotten about the poor guy that detained the thief in Chinatown a while back? That was good for a couple of years in court defending himself.I think Charles Bronson made a movie about this.
He didn't catch the thief in the act. He went after him LATER. That made all the difference. The law permitted a citizen's arrest only at the immediate time of offence, not hours later.

People catch and hold scum for the cops all the time. How often do you read about them being charged for doing so? Done properly, there is no issue. Done it myself a few times over the years with the most recent ones being an impaired driver who ran from a crash, a thief, and a vandal. Never had an issue with the cops with any of them either.

Sorry, but once again your "advice" goes straight into the Ya, right file.

And your advice is to do what? Deal with it personally and impose off-the-books retribution as the OP did? And in doing so change an impersonal situation into a personal one where the other party now has a personal beef to settle with you? And which in the case of the OP, is exactly what happened with follow-up vandalism to the bike and which may now continue to happen over and over again?

Yeah, great plan that.

Well I would have done the same thing! That's some bs! I probably would have defended your bike myself if I saw that going on. People have no respect for other peoples belongings. LOL should have puked on him, now that would be some sweet revenge.

So what's your plan for detaining this kind of suspect Turbo? Handcuffs? Or would you just talk him into hanging around till the proper authorities arrive? You are in a dream state, and i'm outta this pointless thread.

The OP seemed to be able to control the two guys well enough to be able to inflict somewhat of a protracted beat-down on them. Are you suggesting that he wouldn't have it in him to do a simple arm-hold or ground-pin? Come on now.

In any case, now the other two have the upper hand. There is nothing on the record as to their identities. They can come back with relative impunity under cover of dark and get payback after payback after payback for the beat-down, and there is little that the OP can do to stop it short of putting his bike into hiding.

Lesson learned...Beat the idiots down...(because Turbo...no one trusts the cops NOT to charge you if you do the right thing).....and snap a shot of their ID with your phone....so if/when they come back..you can hunt them down and beat them down again and again and again!

turbocop, what's your reply to this question;
This:
“We tied up his feet so he won’t be able to run away,” Mr. Chen said. “He was using his hand to hit us with his fist, so I tied up his hands to bring him back to the store.”
Asked how long he expected police to take, Mr. Chen replied, “About four hours.”
But police, summoned by 911 calls from onlookers, arrived in minutes.

Another great plan. Take a picture of a random person in a city like Toronto, and then try to use that picture to locate them even just a hour later, never mind a day or a week. Good luck.

Read what I wrote...a picture of their ID...it has their address on it genius...LOL

And how are you going to take their ID from them, assuming they are even carrying any on them? What if they say they have none? Ae you going to search them? Under what authority? Some would call that theft, and there is nothing in law permitting a private citizen to forcibly seize or take control of ID. If anything, taking their wallet and ID could put you in a bigger jackpot than them.

all this for a 125cc lol.. good job!!

If Im already in the process of assaulting someone (in the eyes of the law), taking their wallet out of their pockets is just icing on the cake. So yes, if it was me in the situation, I would absolutely "steal" their wallet and ID to take a picture.

Except this is a no-win situation for the OP, because they also know where he lives and where he parks his bike.

I'm gonna reach in his pocket and take it out of his wallet..snap a pic...throw it back at him and tell him if my bike has any damage in the future..I'm gonna find you!

What are they gonna do? Call the cops?...to report what? "I was drunk and puked and kicked a bike and some dude took a pic of my ID"

And come on Turbo...drunks puking on a bike most will have ID...they need it for the bar...they aren't thieves stalking the neighborhood looking to puke on random bikes.

You're logic really is flawed...you really do reach for the stars to make your point....LOL.

By the beard of Zeus! What a fantastic thread. hahahah.

Not often do i agree with Paul.. i need a shower now.

Report what? They could go to the cops and claim that they had been drinking, and one of them accidentally puked on a bike and may even have fell against it. Then someone claiming to be the owner came out and grabbed their wallets, removed cash out of them before throwing the wallets back at them, then beat their *** down the street. Easily done. Your prints will be on the wallets. If they were to go and claim that you robbed them, how would you go about refuting that claim?

While you would have had legal cover to detain them for police, you had none for an extended beat-down and certainly none to relieve them of their wallets for even a second. Anyone with just a little bit of savvy could put you in a serious jackpot over your attempts to handle things "personally".

Be careful how you deal with those situations. Like everyone said, if you try to protect your belongings from a thief/vandal you may end up in jail. Stupid how the world works.

Way to go OP!!! That's awesome! Just remember, an eye for an eye... you should have gouged that pukers eyes out so he could never see your bike again! What a pos!

If you live a couple of floors up I suggest stockpilling some large bricks on the balcony, or near a window :)

or do the responsible matue blah blah yak yak etc.

**** happens, sorry about the bike, and possible broken fists.
