drunk idiots messing with my bike

ep1x

walked home around 1 am; pizza slice in one hand; drink in the other, to a drunk 21 year old kicking the rear of my bike. his friend was watching from a 2 meter distance.
i walk right up to the guy kicking my bike and smash my unopened pop can over his head. at this point, the dumb *** kicking my bike and his friend start backing off asking for no trouble. at this point, i am over aggressive and i start kicking and punching both of them while they are walking back to the main street. my main target was the guy who i saw kick my bike repeatedly.
i get dumb *** up on a wall and use my right/left elbows on his face.. a guy on a harley, mid 30's gets off his bike and says to leave him alone. i straight up tell the guy that this guy f'd with my motorcycle and the harley rider completely backed off me and went about his own business. as soon as the two idiots start jogging off i kick one of the guys in the ***.
as soon as i get to the back of my building, i see close up that there is puke all over my bike.
i go upstairs and fetch a big pale of water and soap... after about 3-5 minutes, i walk back downstairs.. and who do i see hiding in the shadows of the building right next to mine?? dumb *** who kicked/puked on my bike. i lose it and start chasing him.. i chase him on st. laurent blvd, and tackle him to the ground, get on top of him and i am feeding him with as many punches as i can and grabbing his shirt, lifting him up and using my force so he can lose his breath while he hits the ground. people break up the fight saying he is done (because this guy didn't do anything except try to choke me while i was on top of him).. i get up and try to get another few goes at him. the police cruise a few seconds after its over but didn't see anything. i walk back to my place.... as soon as i can see the back of my building, i see my bike is tipped over.
i lost it just by seeing this guy, i never thought about his friend who was probably hiding behind a car... i let my guard down.
now, my left mirror is broken, my paint is rashed and my left clip on looks bent.

after getting my landlord to check the security camera, i can immediately tell that as soon as i chased the one guy, his friend popped out of no where about 20 seconds later... lifted up my bike, popped the kick stand and threw it on the ground and started running.

my landlord printed me out a print screen image of the guys face who tipped over my bike. i am carrying it around with my wherever i go. this kid lives in my area, i am sure of that.. probably goes to mcgill or concordia.

i was supposed to go to bed at 1:30-2am since i have work in the morning, but i am still up hoping these two kids come back. my boss will understand what happened, and will write me off for the day... i have a surprise for these 2 if they come back.

i need sleep.

While I don't condone what these people did to your motorcycle, I believe your reaction could have gotten *you* into some serious trouble too.

You did what most people only talk about but never get the chance to, catching someone messing with your personal belongings and then dealing with it how you see fit! Problem is you obviously leave your bike outside if these guys are locals they may start knocking your bike over every time they walk by! I am surprised that people actually tried to break you guys up, didn't think strangers gave a hoot about anyone else these days.

Whatever you plan to do...make sure it's not on some type of camera. He may have damaged your property but you can be charged with assault charges and that will hurt you in the long run.

It's a tough choice cause I want you to even out the odds and mess 'em up, but at the same time I don't want you to eff up your criminal record just because of some shmuck.

Would you really get hated with assault if some guy is fking around with your bike and you start beating/fighting him??? Wouldn't the cops let you go cause you did not start the whole mess??

Sorry to hear that, i probably would've done something similar, idiots come out at night and the bike normally stays in.

i'm sorry i mean that's so f'ed up but that has got to be the funniest thing i heard all day .. you did the right thing , they were straight messing with you puke'n, kicking , and then from out the shadows , the deadly tip over when your back was turned .. you should beat both they ***..

if you are going to beat the crap outta someone, don't come posting it on here, just in case he happens to report you to the popo and somehow this story gets leaked...aren't you breaking some rule of fight club anyways?

Yeah the cops would nail you for any violence that isn't a direct attempt to preserve someone's life. It's vigilanteism.

I can't blame the OP for what he did, but he did it where he parks his bike every day, He's like a sitting duck to those a-holes and my guess is this conflict is only going to ratchet up and up until something seriously ugly happens.

The way the OP did it, yes. Had the OP simply taken him down and used only the force needed to hold him until the cops came, no. You can use reasonable force to hold someone in custody if you're caught them committing a criminal offence such as vandalizing property.

OP should have put it on the books with the cops right away. That's the problem with private payback - too much potential for payback for the payback.

In theory maybe, but how quickly do cops respond to vandalism calls, and who's gonna call them while this guy's trying to handle the two d*cks? And then what evidence of vandalism was there, vomit? The cops would laugh at the OP and book him for illegaly restraining someone or whatever you call it.

OP. I know exactly how u feel. I recently moved and have to park outside. I live close to 2 bars & the last two Sat mornings I woke up to find my bike on it's side. I thought it may have been an accident by some drunk *** trying to get off the bike after sitting on it and didn't realize the weight of it. But after the 2nd time I now know it's someone F'ing with it & no doubt from the bars.

I now keep a Louisville by the front door & if I catch the dbag doing this again. I'll be swinging for a home run.

I'm also canvasing neighbors to try and rent a space behind a house or in a garage. Out of site - out of mind.

Fortunately for me this is temporary. I move in August to a house with a garage of my own. Can't come soon enough.

If you call and say that you have a vandal in custody, they will respond pretty quick. The cops will not book him for "illegally" restraining someone because it is quite legal to restrain someone if you have caught them red-handed while they were committing a criminal act. It's also legal to use reasonable violence against them as needed to keep them in custody if they should try to escape.

Dude, I haven't read all the comments here, but you will most likely get people saying you are wrong or good for you.

I am glad you delt to those guys. IToo bad about the bike, though.

Many years ago in NZ my car was hit by two guys who were driving drunk. One came after me with a stick and I did "the right thing" by running to a house and calling the cops.. It was a quite Monday night and they were there in minutes.. 7 squad cars and a k9 unit.

Long story short, these guys caused a lot of hassle for me and ive always wished I dealt to them before the cops arrived. (I used to mauy thai )

Anyway, maybe you should move your bike for now or get a cover or something. I bet these punks will be back.

Again, good for you getting your punches in. Screw the Nancy boys here who say "you shouldn't have touched them".

Ok to use "reasonable violence" to detain someone! Yah sure Turbo.Have you forgotten about the poor guy that detained the thief in Chinatown a while back? That was good for a couple of years in court defending himself.I think Charles Bronson made a movie about this.

If you call and say that you have a vandal in custody, they will respond pretty quick.

And how long was it the cops took to respond to the grocer in Chinatown with the thief (not a vandal, a thief) in custody in the back of his van? Over an hour? And what ended up happening to him again? Oh yeah, he was charged and the perp was given immunity to testify against him.

Sorry, but once again your "advice" goes straight into the Ya, right file.
