In your experience, was this accommodation always clean?
No scent of insect spray?

Probably doesn't matter to campers. You like bugs, part of nature.

All the Super 8's i have stayed in have smelled mostly like smoke. Most seemed clean a couple weren't.
You do know most hotels are actually very dirty even if they look spotless right?

They generally seem alright, I've found Super 8s to be more reliable than other chains in my limited experience.

Super 8 was awesome for my 2 night stay during my Chicago trip :)

I find when it comes to budget motel/hotel chains, they are all generally the same in terms of what the place offers - outdated decor, cheapest facilities and in-room appliances. However, it does differ between smoking and non-smoking rooms (this is a big deal to me so I always make sure to book a non-smoking or stay in a place that only has non-smoking) and also between locations. One city might have a really clean Super 8 and another a really gross one.

Best to do a quick google/tripadvisor/etc. search on the particular one you're booking and read some reviews.

I have stayed in many and find they are good for the most part, keeping in mind that these are for the budget minded traveler. The worst one I stayed at was in Summerset PA. The finest was in Clearfield PA. The ones in Front Royal VA and Elkins WV for example are good but not spectacular. Generally the newer ones are nicer. I've had some bad experiences at mom and pop places so I tend to stay in corporate places for the most part. Prices for the locations above tend to average $55-75 a night.

I stay in Hotel/motels quite a bit for work/travel and find it always varies from location to location. In Ontario I have not been happy with Super 8 and usually pay a little more for a Comfort Inn which have almost always been to my liking. Clean, no smoke in room and a decent spread at breky. That being said I have also had good luck at the newer Motel 6 here in Ontario. On my last US trip I stayed at Comfort Inn every nite ( they were fine ) except one night and that one was a very poor Quality Inn near Erie PA....would not recommend that...damp...not very secure and large spiders on the vanity sink in the morning! Couldn't figure out what the black spot was on my towel until I put my glasses on.
Didn't need a coffee that morning!

I did check trip advisor for the particular Super8 location I was interested in...and the management addressed every issue presented on trip advisor.

The pricing is in the range that Carmen indicated, especially a bargain 3 consecutive nights. Appreciate all opinions. Thank you.

I stay at Super 8 when travelling stateside. I just bring some alcohol hand wash and wipe stuff down. But otherwise have been more than content with my Super 8 stays.

I find that they vary from location to location, but have never been near puking when staying in one. You can pretty much tell how it will be inside, by looking at the outside and the neighbourhood around it.

The same goes for most budget chains. I check tripadviser when I can but find the reports very conflicting. One person raves and another rants. Some complaints seem valid but in others the guest was unrealistic.

The biggest complaint seems to be bed bugs. If the eggs stick to your clothing you become the spreader of the pests to the point of taking them home.

My priorities are 1) Safe for me and the bike 2) Clean bed 3) Hot Shower is nice. After that the rest doesn't matter.

I use Best Western as I get the occasional freebie.

I've been in a bunch throughout the US. Every city has one on the outskirts and the price is usually reasonable, normally around $60. Super 8 or Motel 6 are normally my default when searching for a place to spend the night.

Some are old and basic, others are modern and really nice. They've all been clean enough and I've never had a problem with any of them. Pretty sure they're all independently owned, so that doesn't guarantee that they're all good.

I tend to stay at 20-30 Super 8's and Motel 6's a year throughout the US. Super 8's tend to be fine, though most tend to be inside-access. Motel 6's are often outside-access, where you can park the bike right by your door.

I'd say Super 8's are a bit cleaner than Motel 6's, but that said, there's rarely anything wrong with Motel 6's either. Cheap, bug free, basic amenities, (often) coin laundry facilities, the occasional pool. I'm never afraid of what I'm going to see when I enter the room in either chain.

Motel 6's are often about $5-$10 cheaper per night than Super 8's.

Think because 'Motels' have a bad rep. And most folk stay away from them. Bikers realize the perks of having our bike right there, so all the better for us :)

Super 8's are also part of Wyndham Rewards. I usually get at least 1 free night a year from them. I do prefer the Microtel over the S8. Many seem newer and have more current furnishings. But as others have said, I always look up Tripadvisor and GoogleReviews wherever I go, and sometimes you can find a little old motel that's in fantastic shape.

just stayed in one this past weekend. it was cheap and clean. Pretty no frills. For a bed for the nght it covered all needs.
Talking to the lady at the desk having a morning bite, she was telling us they just got new ownewrship, the place used to be pretty run down and not taken care of. Apparently the previous housekeeping staff was pretty well all dismissed because they did such a poor job
