i just passed my MSF, but still fuzzy about WHERE the motorcyclists are allowed to park....

i thought we can park anywhere as long as it's those pay-on-the-side-of-road thingy...and anywhere on the side of road that's allowed by time limit....(i even saw a bike parked on sidewalk....)

i'm interested in motorbikes cuz of its cheapness in parking and every other jazz...but i feel like there's more restrictions than "allowed"

Dude...that's so they can plow the damn streets. That's one of the few parking laws that make sense. lol

Free parking anywhere on the street that it is permitted by signage. This means if there is a "pay on the side of the road thingy" you can park there for free as long as there are no signs saying parking isn't allowed at that time. You can park for free on the street as long as there is no signage saying you can't where you don't have to pay (just like a car... no difference there). You cannot legally park a motorcycle on the sidewalk or even on the land/pavement between the road and sidewalk (I got $150 worth of parking tickets in a weekend because I did this). Scooters, however, can park pretty much whereever they will fit (except where prohibited on the road, they can park on sidewalks). Not legally I don't think but it's not enforced. You cannot legally park in a GreenP lot without paying but this usually isn't enforced. My friend tells me he always parks in GreenP lots and has never gotten a ticket. I tried it last Wednesday and also did not get a ticket. Any private lots are not free for motorcyclists. Some even ban bikes because, if they require payment to leave, motorcyclists will just find another way out/ride around the arm.

You still have to obey the parking signs...I can park by my office between 9am-3pm but after 3 it will get towed if it is still there. (good thing I work from home 90%of the time)

I got one of those tickets...didn't know about them either :(

sent it to court...still waiting for my court date...:lmao:

no snow on the ground for wks to come...yet I got a ticket for it :(

If you're working at Rogers, there's a lot of better places to park other than right on the street.

That's not true. it depends on the law.
If it's something that relatively considered to be common knowledge, it isn't. But if it's some obscure, inconsistantly enforced law, it's sure is!

With regards to road rules, it'd have to be an exceptional case for it to be excused in a court, otherwise it's a drivers responsibility to familiarize themselves with local laws before operating on them. And they'd be subject to prosecution of those laws if broken.

But I won't put the above in stone just yet, because you may just have an example....cuz hey, i COULD very well be wrong. If i was right, I'd likely be a cop or a traffic lawyer or something like that.

I would not be surprised. Like most government agents, they're crooks. I've had completely illegitimate tickets several times. The most blatant that comes to mind cited a bylaw that says you can't park too close (9M maybe?) to construction or something to that effect -- I can't recall exactly -- but the only construction in the area was 200 or 300M away!
