you fuel, you train, you push

i guess you missed it with the toughness part. they didnt "train" for concussions, but they got used to getting hit hard.
the kids that play now arent used to it.

you dont see too many older players getting knocked out with concussions, do you. sure you might name a couple, but mostly its the younger kids.

Do i do any sports ? not currently. But i used to. I played on a Champion rugby team for 4 years, played elite levels of hockey and soccer
and i was also on the school wrestling team for a few years.
now i sit on the couch and watch tv. so i guess i am a Couch tough guy lol

You missed it too. There's nothing in a skull that gets used to getting hit hard. The younger kids recognize concussions have many long term symptoms and choose not to become a vegetable by retirement.

no, i dont blame the government. they only have these rules in place to prevent lawsuits from people being hurt on public property.

did i ever wear a helmet riding my BMX ? No, i dont know anyone that ever did, there wasnt a law for it. I also dont know anyone that ever killed because of no helmet. i know alot of people that took a few good wipeouts, and needed some stitches though.

Your definition of toughness seems to be the one more commonly defined as being a moron.

When my arnt ache and tense up enough to keep me up all night I dont think "such it up princess".

I think, "maybe I should take it easy for a while. Would be nice to be able to hold a glass of water when im 50.

A brain does not "get used to" getting hit. Read up a bit on concussions so that you at least know a bit about what you're talking about. An opinion is one thing, but at least have an informed one.

I have my own opinion, and if you disagree with it, thats fine. i know enough about concussions to talk about them.

might i suggest you read up on how to be polite

What's with all the concussion discussion & Crosby got to do with anything?
He was mis-diagnosed.
He has damage / swelling in his spine - upper vertebrae. C1/C2 & C2/C3 is the injured area, not his skull, although that type of injury produces "concussion like" symtoms.
I'm glad he found a capable Dr, sooner, rather than later.
Nothing a pound or 2 of bacon won't cure!
He did a 'full practice' today.

BTW Yetti.........when we played elite hockey (or when I did) there were no such thing as 'cement' elbow pads, and shoulder pads. My kids laugh at my old elbow pads, that were exactly that - pads - not weapons like many like to wield these days.

If I were in charge, I'd demand a full season with NO helmets for anyone.........bring back some respect, and good 'ol body checking etc, when very few were listed as "IR" because of contact.

Unless you used to eat bacon at an elite level, you have no basis to make a comment.

Oldtimer.

Unfortunately, you cannot train to take a harder hit. As with the UFC, there are some top level fighters that have glass chins and there is nothing they can do about it. There was an article on Sherdog about it a while back and it basically comes down to the facial bone structure. If you don't have it, there is no way to fix it.

I can't remember the person who made the original statement..I think it was Ali..the person said, punching doesn't make you great, being able to take punches makes you great. Lots of punchers..the best though could take a beating and not go down. Ali took some serious beatings in his career..

Hey here's an idea, why don't I hire flashmonkey to go over there and pound some more toughness into you?

P.S. mods; I'm joking.
