I’m curious to hear feedback about this bike, especially from some of the members with experience on these older machines.

I have the opportunity to pick one up for a very reasonable price. I know for sure it hasn’t run in several years. Some parts (specifically carbs, I’m sure others) aren’t on the bike but I’m told the current owner has everything in a box.

Is there any value in these bikes? Not that it matters again just curious.

I’m looking at it more as a cheap project to get started and gain more experience on. I have no intention on trying to restore it, more just to wrench on it and get it running.

How cheap? Parts in boxes for me means almost free as it is almost inevitable that some small bits will be missing or damaged and they add up really quickly.

I never had any love for that bike, but I've never ridden one and have no idea how others feel about them.

They aren't particularly collectable. As a project to learn and have some fun with it will be okay.
Parts are getting harder to find (40+ years old), so it's a long termer.

Is that the twin or triple?

I had a 1977 XS7502D, triple, shaft drive, mag wheels with a colour matched Windjammer fairing, bought new in '78.

It was a great bike for the day. Mufflers melted (rusted) away in about 3 years and had to be replaced for about $250, 10% of what I paid for the whole bike new. Sold summer 1983 with about 20,000 km on it if I recall. Had no issues with it. Similar to below picture - Windjammer

Great bike back in the day.
The triple, delivered power in a completely different way and most people didn't like it. Or people loved it.

It's heavy to today's standards

It is a high maintenance bike.
You will learn to wrench well on this bike.

don't pay more than $1,500 for a certified example

Almost free is accurate. I wouldn’t entertain the idea otherwise as I know costs add up quickly especially if there are parts missing. Anytime someone says the parts are in a box I assume they aren’t all there.

Very close. Not the exact one and definitely in need of some help.

How much time and effort do you want to put in to this? Initial price is ok, a post above says 1500 certified is probably the selling price. You probably cant make money on it, but you could learn and may not lose your shirt (assuming it's mostly there, healthy and you dont need to repaint/rechrome). It often takes similar amounts of time and money to restore an unloved model and a respected classic but the respected model gets a much bigger return on your labour.

Not looking to make anything on this, just possibly a fun project. If anything major came up I bail and cut my losses.

Purchase price I’m looking at is $50. Not a chance in hell I’m going to spend $200 or more to get in. If I can get it running, gain some experience, and sell for $500 I’m happy.

There's so much that has to be done to that bike. Is there a working throttle cable?
If not, how are you going to find one? there are many parts no longer available for it. It will turn in to a sourcing exercise.
Join a message board that deal with these bikes specifically and they will help a lot.

LOOK INSIDE THAT GAS TANK. If it's rusty, that's another challenge. It looks rusty from the outside, I'm sure the inside is rusty.
Does it have a key and an ownership?
