I'm going to be doing a frame up restoration on both an '89 RZ 350 and and '82 RD 350. My goal is to have both bikes ready for the exhibitor's display in the January 2023 bike show. The RZ is mostly complete but has but has not been started in 20 years and the RD is a lot more of a basket case. I'd like to lean on the collective knowledge and expertise of the GTAM community for help.

Post up pics of what the bikes look like today. There are lots of bike-specific forums, but would be great to see a long-running restoration thread on GTAM .

Thanks, TK. Well, I guess there's going to be a lot of questions going forward. I took an engine out of a race RZ 20 years ago, that I owned, but the rebuild was done by DPE. I was hoping in this present case to do everything myself. The '89 will be easier. It has never been crashed but has 55,000 kms on it and will need a full rebuild. The gas tank has dents in it from something falling on it in the shed and I noticed the two lowers and belly pan are not on the bike and may be found at a later date (they could be somewhere in that place know as "the abyss" (basement).

Will keep this forum up to date on the progress.

Not much to know, if the pieces are in reasonably good shape just follow the service manual. Willy at Wasp Performance can do whatever machine shop work you need (crank rebuild, rebore, etc.). A lot of Banshee parts fit, Winner's Circle is a good source. Be sure to check the condition of the clutch basket, it doesn't use springs just nylon donuts and they wear out. Again, there's a kit to fix that.
Rolling chassis stuff is a different matter - be prepared to do a lot of searching.

Oh yeah, when reinstalling the crankshaft into the cases, make certain the locating pins on the bearings match up to the holes in the case.
Don't ask me how I know....
