Yamaha R3 or CBR500/CB500

CF > Best advice yet -

the Honda CB500x CAN be a long term ride but don't buy it with a view to flipping it early.
If its a short term buy - get a used 250 something - take advantage of some one elses depreciation.

I've ridden the CB500x and thoroughly enjoyed it. Best for the taller rider.

The R3 was impressive on the slab keeping up but pretty small bike as are the other Hondas in the 500 series

It will be a long term buy. I have already had 250s, and an enduro, which my dad is taking over. I was planning on getting my own bike. I graduate University in 2019/2020 for my long *** program ahah, so it will be a small cc bike I will be keeping to at least then.

The main thing is i am curious to know if I will drive a lot of highway. I know the 500 is good for that. But when I get the bike, will I end up doing many highway sprints I think I might; I do not know. I do short ones on the CRF as it is all it can handle, but I don't know if i would even if I get a 500. I also seems to drive thru the city streets. I say i want to do trips, but I am always constrained for time. if the 300 will hold 115km/h steady for 1.5 hrs 2-3 a month, then thats good enough for me. If i ever wanted to tour small trips over the summer, that would be the most for me.

I dont know what would be more comfortable between the two though.

I saw, test drive. VOS Motors is celebrating their 10 years so you can maybe test drive it there.
As for the cb500s i think the next ride with us event is at honda Milton last weekend of july ...

So demo and decide :)

I could have got the CBR cheaper through a honda employee using their discount, and I still went with the R3.

If this was the case I would have definitely went with the CBR500 personally unless you wanted a track bike. I have the CB500X and it's an amazing bike.

The 300 will hold 140 for endless hours straight, with room for more.

indicated...if you take a GPS you might be surprised it's more like 125....but still that's rocking along for a 300.

I was debating between R3 and CB500F ... went with CB and I'm glad I did. I tested both bikes and in terms of power CB500F has an edge with its low range torque but R3 is definitely capable of reaching decent highway cruising speeds. Honda is tuned for my style of riding (mostly city) and seating position is a bit more upwards compared to Yamaha. ABS is a great feature for those who care, something that R3 is missing. I love the look of R3 (still think it looks better than CB) but my plan was to buy a bike and keep it for a long haul therefore CB500FA seemed to be a better choice ....
