Mid-size bike I'd probably be fine and happy with an O ring if it saves enough.... big displacement I'd spend the extra. Why? Because I'm stupid and it feels right? Idunno.

19,000km??
I get at least 50,000km's out of my chains just with basic cleaning and lubing after a rainy ride. I don't cheap out, a quality DID chain with oem sprockets.

Same here - about 50k out of every chain. On my V-Strom I was getting closer to 60k per chain and the FZ1 I swapped it at 45k.

When I had no car I was getting 18k km on chains. Riding rain or shine (or slush) in all conditions will kill your chain life. Parking it outdoors and having no center stand and nowhere to work on it probably didn't help.

Plus he's on a KLR. Your norms probably don't apply to KLR guys. KLR riders are from Where The Wild Things Are or something.
