You have to go to the parks, just get there early. Don't go during the weekend if you can help it.
Yellowstone was great, I went in early June, there was still snow in the high roads and some of the passes, but they were open.
Superslabbing sucks. If you can, take the secondary highways. When I go out West I try to take a different route each time. Last time I went through Sault Ste. Marie and went across Michigan through Marquette and took highway 2 all the way to Glacier National Park. It was almost as fast as the Interstate, but way more interesting. It was super fast through Minnesota, turned to 4 lanes for some time.
Take your time getting out there and then blast home on the slab if you have to.
Yah the wind, good point. It is the prairies, she's gonna blow. Sometimes it will be a couple of days of hell. If you are used to riding in the wind, it won't be too bad. If you are not, just be careful and try to stay loose (easier said than done).
The West is great, big open land and sky and fewer people on the road...they are still at the National Parks
, out East!
