WTB kids skiis/boards?

This winter the kids have passes at Snow Valley (they are two and four). Anyone have any leads on tiny skis/boots (and maybe snowboards, but it's probably smarter to start with skis)? They haven't used anything yet so I don't need race ready gear, just something that fits and is safe (and preferably cheap because who knows if they will like it/be ready to figure it out). Thanks in advance for any help/ideas.

Pic from her pass for attention.

Your best bet is some kind of ski swap sale. Kids grow in and out of sports gear so quickly, you'll go broke buying new every season or two.

Most ski resorts have some kind of swap sale day just before the season begins:

Milton Heights has one October 25: 2019 Ski & Snowboard Swap – MHRC
Snow Valley has one on November 2nd: 2019 Equipment Sale & Open House
Brimacombe has one November 2nd: Event | Brimacombe
Hockley Valley November 17th: https://www.hockley.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/ski-swap-flyer-2019.jpg

There's also a big one in Barrie every year around the end of October, here's a link to last year's sale:

Check the website next month, they'll probably have 2019 dates and details announced by then.

That looks like fun for me. The wife wont appreciate it when I tell her there is no longer room in the garage for her car.

Realistically mini bikes are more likely than snowmobiles. They take up much less valuable space. That will be a few years down the road.

Thanks. That's very helpful. I wasnt even considering buying new. I put the swaps into the calendar and will visit them if we dont find something sooner (no rush, just watching internet postings for people clearing out their old junk).

I'd suggest snow blades as they're easier to learn on as they're not nearly as long and don't get tangled up on each other … turns out I have a pair I was going to list up for sale that have been in the basement for some time. :)

Not sure what I'd sell them for yet but PM me if you're considering it.

You can probably rent them some gear for the first couple times.. until you know if they're into it or not.
We are really close to the hill so we bought passes (kids season passes are only $60 each). With the passes, you don't go broke if the kid has had enough for the day after 30 minutes. It's like piano lessons, you don't have to like it, you just have to do it until you are competent then you can stop if you want.

.... buy used gear off kijiji. It'll cost you twice as much as renting. But as soon as you use it twice, you got your money's worth. Annnnd you can resell at the end of the season and get some of that money back.

Also with my daughter (5 y old), i did the 4-5 day lesson thing where they go daily for consecutive days. Best way to learn. Mine was done at Milton though (Glen Eden). Compared to her swimming, she learned light years faster and we were able to go by ourselves a few times after that to enjoy the mountain.

That's probably the march break plan for the four year old. I'm not spending that much on instruction for a two year-old (and daycare is already paid for). If she's not ready to learn this year, no problem.

i tried when she was four...just a 1 day thing, with rental and what not...
she wasn't ready to push... but 5 was the sweet spot for her. And yeah my 2-y old is too ... tantrummy to get him to do that

I used to ski with my daughter between my skis down intermediate runs, it was a blast! it only got scary once she was on her own.

Had to literally ski-skate down a hill at Blackcomb to crash her out before she went for the trees once :| that was scary
and slightly painful for me.

The tiny child missiles do get going quite quickly. I haven't taken mine yet, but I have seen more than one anklebiter in a tuck going straight down a black. Thankfully, it has worked for all the ones I've seen, but I'm going to strongly discourage that behaviour (until they can competently abort if required, then have at 'er).

That was after years of solo skiing and lessons! She sat back on fast bumps and was doing a toboggan run, accelerated rapidly,
didn't look like she had the ability to crash once she was too far back.
Keep them close if you can and once they solo have a plan to intervene the moment they look out of control.

I've done that before, it's not a great feeling.

go to the swaps, or the Toronto ski show, which has a huge swap. New gear for kids is ego and a huge waste. Let them decide when they are tired/cold / bored and dont push. They will get it or not, mostly get it. And dont worry about klids tucking and bombing, they are so close to ground level they just skip and bounce.
I taught skiing for years at Glen Eden. Rule one with kids, its supposed to be fun, when its not fun, pack it in for the day. Your idea of fun may be different from theirs. Nobody cares about your idea.

Buy the best boots with the best fit you can gauge, the poles and skis are accessories, you ski in the boots. Cold and cramped sucks. Skiis are never cold and cramped, just boots.
