heading to PA next week for a 2 day trip.... I have an Avon storm on the back and although doesnt feel too bad, I am wondering if it would be best to out some fresh rubber on, or would I be ok with these? I was trying to wait till next year for a new set but what do you think?

Second picture shows you are pretty close to the center wear bar.

Mileage-wise you should be ok but should be prepared to put on a new one when you return.
Dont forget the center of your tire is thinner so it's easier to puncture. Something as simple as a decent size stone with a sharp edge on the road could do it.

My rear was close to done. I went to Montreal and back last weekend and its done now. New rear arrived at my door today and will go on tomorrow or this weekend.

No problem!

I think so too....there are some "under construction" spots that will do a good job on it.

Mine was worse when I went down and I sat 11 hours waiting for the tow truck in 144 :( My tire is smaller both width and diameter tho so higher wear rate.

Kid's was about like that when we headed out to Quebec and he ended up on the steel coming home. 1800 km and he was pushing it plus we had some gravel and some marginal pavement.
I suspect the last slab stretch at 160 indicated did him in tho.

the sides are still pretty good so depending on how many twisties I may be ok:lmao:

+1

Wear bar is close but you're not there yet, might as well polish the tire off in one go.

If you don't care about your safety or life keep riding.

If you do care, change it.

I find it incredible for someone that has owned 5 bikes has to ask this basic question.
Seriously dude, this was just dumb to ask.
I would not expect this from someone like you.

Change it BEFORE you go - then you can really enjoy riding the roads. You are entrusting your life to a 4 square inch contact patch - why take the chance?

My last set of tires were Avon Storms, great tire, but yours is too worn to take a 1,000 - 1,500km ride. Why take the chance of a blow out or seeing cord to use up $20 of tread. How much is your free time or life worth. Have an unrepairable flat on a side road on Sunday morning and your flatbed towtruck wait could be hours and then what do you do as all the shops will be closed until Monday morning. For $20 bucks you'd be willing to risk this?

I am sorry I have disappointed you... you are right.. I'm stupid! I will change it and never ask a dumb question again... am I forgiven?

That's the gamble, those tires might have 1000+ km left on them, but it's a huge drag to find out the hard way that far from home. I swapped tires out a bit early for a trip to PA, last thing i needed to worry about was whether I've ripped through to the chords or not.

I had the same dilemma a few weeks ago. I knew my tire still had a bit left on it but it would be torched after a 1500 KM weekend in PA. You're going to change it when you get back anyway so do it before you leave. You'll have a blast on fresh rubber and you won't be worrying about punctures, rain, and squirmy feelings in the twisties.

if you have to ask, you already know the answer. Ask yourself this, what is the best case scenerio? save $30 of rubber from your next tire? What is the worst case scenerio? Belts on rain, oil, a flat, etc. Change the tire.

In addition, your going to be thinking about your tire, not the road the whole way. As the addage goes, when your busy trying not to crash, is usually when people crash.

I would, but I am not the same as most people,LOL. However, I'd ride like I had a tire that was on it's way out.
Should you? That's a better question than would I.... I have ridden in snowstorms, so my judgement isn't the greatest...if you have to ask, then you already know it is suspect.....
