Working from home and zoom meetings

Steelcase then? Those are expensive too.

Ill get rid of my Embody in a few years for a Steelcase because I hate the armrests on this thing. At the same time, it's easy to justify the cost because most of us (at least devs) spend 40-80 hours a week on this chair. I'm definitely in the 50-70 hour range.

But yes, the wheel price is stupid and I just got ones from Amazon lol
I don't know. I would love a recaro but the prices on those are full-*^*&^. I thought they were expensive years ago and they have gone way way up (~$5000 USD). That is not happening.

Given the number of hours I spend in the chair, I am ok with $500 to $2000 but it better be special if it's near the top. Still using a super comfortable Lane that I bought in ~2002 from Costco for ~$300. It is looking a little rough but otherwise still great.

Here's an angle I heard about today...

Employees with ergonomic assessments/accomodations/equipment
working at home and therefore working without said accommodations/equip.....?

Coupled with....WSIB claims...?

Not sure how prevalent in the private sector, but... in my organization... this is going to blow up huge Lol.

The company I work for provides a $1000 taxable benefit to reimburse home office expenses such as a chair, desk, monitor, key board, head phones etc.

Does not include computers as that is managed separately.

Am I the only one that thought of Bloodsport when reading Chun Li?

As for the question, if you have to ask, don't do it.

Mine doesn’t, they said “you can take your office equipment home”. Except I don’t have a spare van lying about. I’ll claim it back on tax instead.

Has zoom sorted their security? My employer forbids the use of zoom due to security breach concerns.

We use Microsoft Teams for video conferencing.

Regarding backgrounds, I’d consider anything you allow in a public office as acceptable. So would you bring something like that into an office and put it up on the wall?

It’s not about old school. It’s about professional conduct.

Unprofessional conduct is subject to disciplinary action.

If it’s just a couple of coworkers and you know them, no big deal.

If there are other employees you don’t know and their camera are off but they can view others and see something offensive, it might get ugly.

We are the same way - Microsoft Team or Lync, nothing else. We can't even access Zoom on our company computers...

-

I'll never turn my webcam on. I put a sticker over it the day I was handed a laptop and have never taken it off. I did figure out a way to stream my cellphone camera to Teams, so I've had a fair bit of fun with that

I use zoom as a colloquial term, the vast majority of meetings I have been a part of are webex, some teams and a very few zoom.

Afaik, it is just a straight $400 on your tax return (I would guess non-refundable tax credit but not sure). Alternatively you can do it the old way with the form, percentage of house used etc.

Here’s the gov’t link:

Trip over your laptop power cord while working on some work stuff and break an ankle....
WSIB claim..?

Also I had a gaming chair before (DxRacer), they suck. No offense to anyone who likes 'em. I got back and tailbone area pain from them. I'm also the type that sits down for like 3 hours straight though so that probably played into it.
you`re doing it wrong...

Fack. What is the matter with manufacturers? Starting price is close to ending price which is much better. They have two different fabrics in a few dozen colours. Making changes updates a computer generated chair. No visual difference between fabrics, fabrics with different thumbnail colours are the same on the computer generated chair and only a single picture of a real chair and that is a black one. Embarassing.

At my last job we were all using old mediocre office chairs and it was starting to beat up the staff. I talked to the boss about the benefits of new chairs and they were onboard until we got to budget. I figured for $1000 each people could get something decent and they looked at me like I had two heads and said budget was capped at $250 per chair. I left six months later. The money was there (owners family cell phone bill covered by the company was four figures), if you want to be cheap at the expense of your employees health, we have different core values.

Right now, my job doesn’t require any mobility so, not sure if I break my ankle how it would go with my manager. Lol.

In all seriousness though, there is more employees off on STD and LTD related to stress/burnout etc. So, the have a pretty comprehensive mental health program.

So I decided to order a bunch of half naked posters of Chun Li, Cammy, Tifa, etc. etc. (Google for reference!)

I've also plastered them all over my wall. I'm not going to take 'em down but I'm curious, since we got a bunch of old school managers here, what would you do, during a zoom meeting, if the software glitches and an employee's background showed a bunch of half naked ahegao faced girls covered in white liquid?

I'm half serious about this question because I'd love to troll/see the reaction of the older more sensitive folk and push boundaries. But there are some legit issues involving work space versus home space now, especially since WFH will be VERY common.

I never show my face for meetings btw lol
I wear odd stuff in my zoom meetings (my Santa suit, assorted fur hats, Elton John and John Lennon glasses), but I keep it PG13.

Our code of conduct includes remote workplaces will not have visible objects, art or images that would be considered offensive if they were present in on company premise. To be safe, I took down the Multistrata 1000 poster hanging in my office.

Was there a model on the bike? People would get butthurt that you don't support domestic manufacturers? I don't see the problem. Maybe not the epitome of office professionalism but completely inoffensive I would think.

I thought about it when I bought the Ape. The ape was prettier. I may even have given the DS a shot if it was asian but if I buy something italian, it needs to be gorgeous.
