Woman asked me to turn my headlights down

I pulled up behind a white Mercedes at a traffic light on The Donway to make a left turn onto Lawrence to get onto DVP. This woman got out of her car and came to me and asked if I had my high beams on. I said NO. She said that I should turn them down because they hurt her eyes and lectured me about traffic safety. the light was turning so she got back into her car and made the left turn into the right lane behind a van with her left signal going then put on her right signal and pulled to the left to pass the van, then put on her left signal to go into the right lane and cut off the van. Down the whole ramp to the dvp she drove on the shoulder, not one tire in the lane. I think she was just trying to get away from my bright headlights that were hurting her eyes in the middle of the day.

I ride a 2014 Triumph Trophy and others have mentioned my lights seem bright. I think they are just normal halogens. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? I know it's the big city and all.

Although it is a bike, and this measurement works best on cars; Park 25ft from a wall. The cut off should not be higher than the height of your headlight(s), and ideally 2-3" lower

Were you neer Port Perry yesterday? I had a black sports tourer coming towards me that looked like the highbeams were on and were blinding.

Did you buy the bike new? Is there a chance a previous owner did something stupid to the lights?

For Hyperions measurement, make sure you are sitting on the bike and the ground is level (or at least a constant slope).

Lots of vehicles seem to have their lights maladjusted, and the problem is getting worse.
Did you manage to get yours tested in a shop that knows what it's doing?

Dodge seems to be horrible with DRLs from factory.

Civics or any honda with HIDs top the charts.

HIDs in most cases where retrofits are not done, are blinding - could be you might have some from PO (if applicable).

When I bought my Versys, I kept pissing people off with the headlights. It turned out the previous owner had switched the hi/low beam plugs. Hi beam was on all the time and when I flicked on the high beams, the low beam came on as well. Since he was running a high output PIAA on high all the time, I was really pissing people off.

If it's daytime just laugh at her. Nighttime? Check your lights out & make sure you use low beam

Not sure why you'd laugh at her?

Who cares?
Tell her your lights are bright so people like her see you on the road and dont kill you.

This thread can be summarized as "someone in traffic did something stupid today". Happens everyday and its nothing to worry about.

There's a school of thought that suggests we should always be riding with our high beams on for greater visibility (ours as well as being visible to others).
On a side note, my humble Subaru has an automatic dimming rear-view mirror so high beams behind me aren't glaring in my eyes, day or night. I bet that woman in the Mercedes didn't even know there's a little switch to do the same for her rear-view mirror.

apart from the high/low beam thing it could just be that your headlights are angled too high. There is usually a little knob at the back of the headlight to adjust it.

Apart from her described horrible driving, you should take her time to get out of her car as a sign (along with every other person who has mentioned it to you) that YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, and not anyone else. Likely, something is 'not right' with your headlights. Fix it.

Good on you for not getting butt hurt when she told you.
