Wireless headphones that fit under helmet?

Does anyone sell these? I want to listen to music without wires dangling. And preferably something in-ear so I can still hear traffic noise.

The holy grail - not there yet - BT is iffy - best might be a Scala G4 or a Q2 - but for quality I still use Ultimate Ears instead of earplugs - and I can still hear the Scala

I've also been on the hunt for something. Closest I found is rocket fish stereo headphones from best buy. Problem is you have to take the whole thing apart, and I couldn't found a way to access the power button for on off. If you find anything with smallish earphones, let me know and I'll see if I can make it work...for both of us lol

I just use wired ones for my music. Wires never dangle because I thread the wire under my t-shirt.

On another note, has anyone had success with using in-ear headphones with mic in a helmet? I was thinking I could attach it to the smooth part in front of my mouth and attempt to take calls. Give or take wind noise of course.

This is what I want. I don't care about wireless. I just want to listen to my music and take calls. I was going to try modifying the wired headphone/mic that came with my phone. I also want 'in ear' headphones cuz otherwise I need to wear ear plugs.

Scala is freakin expensive! I might have to Macguyver something. Sigh

no they are not - the Q2s I;ve seen as low as $189 for a pair and if you hunt I bet you can find a single for pretty cheap. used. Batteries go for years ( we're on the fourth season ).

There is no reason the mic on say the Ultimate Ears unit will not work just fine - you might need to put some acoustic foam over it.
I use the mike on my scala to phone in and out all the time and I'm open face - works better in the Shoei but rarely wear it.
I like the on - off - skip button on the Ultimate ears but Etymotics makes good ones as well - like the Ultimate better

Closest I've found is the Jabra 320s, it is still wired from the buds to the control unit but you can clip that onto your collar. You can use any earbuds you like with it, but then you have to bundle the extra cord.

Unlike the Scala, it don't work so well for phone calls unless you are going very slow, cause the mike is in the wind on your collar.

The cost of all the DIY projects and purchases will end up equaling the cost of a Scala

Only the Scala G4 offers stereo sound, so if you're any kind of an audiophile, that's your best option.

SCALA isnt holy grail... SENA SMH10 is waaaay better for BT headset in my opinion. Been using it for 1year now - got the early model.. now they have a new mode with better features etc. Been using it for music playback on iPhone 3G/3GS/4 - Works well. Maybe expensive if you just want music.. but it can be heard with earplugs at 120KM+ and also voice conversations at the same speed.

There maybe other options, but this "just works" ... see http://www.senabluetooth.com for more details.. hopefully more canadian distrubuters soon.. resellers have better prices than the manufacturer rocketmoto.com are good, they ship USPS and I didnt pay any tax.

It was also voted WebBikeWorld product of the year for 2010.

I have my I-phone headphones(the ones that came with it) I ran the headphones between the foam and my helmet (Icon) ran the mic up the right in front of my face used 3m double sided tape (the stuff for cars) the ran the wire back to my chin strap.
when im not using it it tucks up in the back of my helmet and when i use it i run the wire from the chin strap in to my jacket (phone in the inside pocket) works well for me voice activation works well etc.

I did not say the scala was the holy grail - I said what the OP wants is and it's not available yet.
Got it?

but it can be heard with earplugs at 120KM+ and also voice conversations at the same speed.
so can the Scala and has been for 4 years.

BTW iPhones suck at voice commands and BT in general. Been there -
For music in ear is the only way to anything like fidelity. No in helmet speakers will ever cut it.

In ear music headphones designed for the music industry so the musicians can hear without the background noise are ideal replacements for ear plugs even tho most have somewhat lower noise suppression ( 23-26 db ) versus 30+.

With the in ear headphones in place the Scala can be easily heard - that's why it's nice to have the off button on the cable.

With ear plugs its a bit of a stretch to hear the Scala at full loudness.
Without ear plugs - blows your brain out loud when on full.

The in helmet speakers are designed to produce voice well , not music.

One of these days we'll see an active noise cancelled combined with in ear fidelity....even on airplanes that's tough as it requires a close seal to the head to work well.

I tried a pair in helmet but could never get the seal correct.
It requires in - ear plus some sort of form fitting pull over the head with a tuned foam pad that conforms to your ear ( memory foam ) and provides a seal without thickness.

The helmet could be sealed but you end up with some bone conduction which makes things worse in some ways.

( test this push your helmet up against your one ear - high frequency noise gets suppressed but low end gets louder. )

The physics are all against good sound and noise suppression in a helmet.

I use the midland bt2. Bluetooth connection to my iphone alows me to listen to music, talk on the phone or talk to other riders with a bt2. The only problem is that at 120ish, the sound starts to crackle from the wind pushing on the connection between the earphones and the unit. The speakers and mic fit inside the helmet.

and sound like tinny speaker in a helmet :D tanstaafl

Music and voice are too different
to get any sort of bass response there has to be a seal

try listening to a single in-ear speaker - sounds thin.
Put the other in and cup your hands over your ears and you get a good bass response. No in helmet speaker can give you that.

custom molded - yes they are available but not a great deal :confused1:
