Will pay experienced rider to inspect possible bike purchase

I wouldn't go more than $1500 on a CBR125. Most will have a ding or scratch, but for the most part they are dependable and tough little bikes.

The one listed above has 9,000KM on the clock and IMHO is properly priced. It should sell quickly.
We'll see how quickly.

I just told him I'm ready to pay cash and buy it.

Maybe I should get a cashier's cheque from the bank ?

Now, is $100 fair for you one of you guys to take a look at it ?

*** Wonder why it hasn't sold in 3 weeks ???? **

He says it doesn't have a safety but will pass with a rear tire

And a clutch lever. High probability that it went down on the left side. Thats why the only pic is the right side. It probably needs two tires due to age.
If it went down, possibly frame damage ?

Would you be able to tell ?

Are you interested in inspecting it for $100 ?

I appreciate that you are willing to pay for help. I don't have time right now to go to keswick. You can tell a lot from looking at a bike, maybe not everything but enough. Frame damage from falling over would be bad luck. Most damaged frames happen when the bike runs into a relatively immovable object (eg rear ends a car).

Should I pay cash or use a cashier check or other ?

This is something you should ask the seller. From a buyer's perspective, it doesn't really matter unless you're worried about getting jacked when you show up with a wad of cash. But I wouldn't be worried about $1500, especially if you're not going alone. Are you also looking for someone with a trailer if you're planning on buying it on the spot? Or how do you plan on getting it home?

You can take the GO to Keswick. Bring cash, if there is another issue that warrants a discount, you can't rewrite a cashier cheque.

If you can get to Keswick, tomorrow between 2 and 5, I'll be in the area. I'll don't want anything for helping. I can drive you back to a TTC connection at Warden and 7 afterward.

If you make a deal on the bike, I can help pick it up next week.

Sorry my window over the next few days is small, leaving for an out of town family thing Friday till Monday.

You won't get a better offer from a more knowledgeable guy to help you out.

Not to take anything away from any of the other members that have already responded and many others that haven yet.

If you are serious about this bike I would jump on this offer.
If it's a dud I am sure you will learn a thing or two from @Mad Mike in the process. The trip would be worth that in itself.

I'd really like to get him to do whatever is needed to pass the safety, so the bike is rideable.

He says the rear tire, and clutch (lever only ???) are needed.

Assuming he would do it, how much is a reasonable $$$ ?

I'm willing to go $2,000 or even $2,500, to have the bike "ready to go" ?

Otherwise, how much am I looking at for a shop to replace the tires, and the clutch lever ?

Mike

You really need to see the bike with experienced eyes.

Far to easy for a bike to pass safety when it really shouldn't.

It's important to have a safety certificate but should bit be the deciding factor if a bike is worth its asking price.

Don't rush into this. There will be many more bikes like this in the market.
No one keeps these bikes forever.

Bikes don't maintain themselves -- most riders develop some basic maintenance skills like changing levers, bulbs, and fluid changes. Changing a lever at a Honda dealer would cost about $100 for parts and labor. Changing it yourself would cost you less than $20, and would take someone with experience a few minutes - a novice not more than 30 minutes. Tire changes are easy too, many of us do our own, they require some simple hand tools and basic mechanical aptitude - it's not a terribly expensive shop job so most riders take it to a shop.

The back tire costs about $125, there is a shop in Keswick, RVK, that would likely change the tire for around $200 for parts and labor. and the lever for another $50 (that's a guess). Not all power sports repair shops do safeties, there are lots of places in TO that will do one for $80-125.

If you like the bike, here's what I would do:

1) Check the bike over, make your best deal as is, and look after repairs yourself.
2) Arrange insurance, and get a TEMP plate so you can ride her to and from the repair shops.
3) Do the repairs, get a safety, and get the FIT plate.

Then you go riding.

I wouldn't trust the seller to perform the safety in this situation. I've had a bike safety that needed tires .

'You gonna put new tires on this?'
'yup, I promise'
'ok, here's your certificate'

If it needs those things to pass, I would probably offer $1500 cash and take it home on a trailer.

You can't (shouldn't) ride it home without a plate as those are pretty heavy consequences if you get caught. To get a 'Temporary' plate you'll need to go to the Service Ontario with all documentation. That'll give you a 'T' plate for a week to get it all setup.

EDIT: I'd help you out with a trailer and ride, but unfortunately I just do not have the spare time right now b/w everything going on.

Means the vehicle is fit/safe to be driven on the road.

Slightly dented SMax 155 may be on the market soon

BTW OP what's wrong with the bigger scoots ?Screen Shot 2023-07-20 at Jul, 20 2023 12.01.54 PM.jpg
