Will be taking the bike to dyno, what to expect?

You keep telling yourself that Jamie. Maybe one day we'll see you at a track wowing us with that engine of yours.

So, this weekend I plan to take the bike to Dynotunes in Burlington. Since I've never had a bike on the dyno before, I am sitting here at work bored to death and wondering what to expect.

disappointment

Question: in that case, why would shops even bother doing the 3rd run at all? Am I missing something?

It might be 3, it might be 4 or 5 runs.

Keep doing runs until power falls off, then she's too hot. I had my 2004 10R on the national dyno and he did 4 runs with it.

Now that is funny.

Given the ambient air temp difference of 75f to 97f I felt the half a HP difference was justified as at least that much actual gain, as it was done on the same dyno. All the runs I did, on both dyno days, showed a similar result, all of the new ones a half a HP over my previous run ;)

I spent some coin, my GF just $80 for the ECU flash ;) The 6th gear roll-on's clearly show the improvement in her bike. If we're both at 100km/h on the 401 and roll the grip to the click at the same time, by 145km/h she's got two bike lengths on me. Does this matter? No, not really. Is it fun to make the machine perform the best that in can? Absolutely. Who knows, one day those two bike lengths might save her life when she needs to get out of a sticky situation quick.

Do you know what a measurement error is? A 0.5 Hp gain can just as easily be 1 Hp loss.

My super awesome 2003/2005 era engine and 2003 suspension? Yep, I'll spank ya ;) lol.

I don't think I've ever said I did any of my mods, hoping to ever do anything on the track, lol.

yup 3 is just an example, it could even be 10 runs, point is from cold the bike will make more and more HP as the operating temp rises. And then it will start to fall off as it starts to get too hot because your bike does not move on a dyno. And generally a few fans pointed at the bike in most shops, does not create the same cooling affect as actually moving through the air at the speed it would be..

I used to care about HP numbers when I first got into riding 10 years ago, every part or mod done Id run back to the shop for a dyno to see what I got out of it...Now I dont care, as long as the bike runs good I could care less if it has 105 or 110..And these days with closed loop AFR tuning, I just set it once and forget it....Unless a problem comes up and the bike starts to have an issue, or if I was competing, I dont bother with dyno runs...I do want to have my 2012 KX450F dynoed thou, just because its my first 450cc and Im interested to see what kinda power characteristics a big single makes compared to my usual inline 4 600's...That being said its the power curve Im interested in seeing, much more then peak HP...
