IMO, negativity makes us unhappy. Shopping and fast food are fast fixes. Follow the money.

Did you ever wonder why we have so many poor obese people? Advertising is meant to make you unhappy with what you have.

There is a LOT of injustice in every part of the world. Unfortunately for us, unless one is in a position of power, there isn't much (anything significant atleast) one can do about it.

Maybe I'm too selfish/ignorant about it. I've reached that point where I have very limited f's to give on a day to day basis anymore : /

FWIW, no one attacked the messenger, they answered the messenger's question with sass. This is the Internet and that should be expected.

I'll say that I often see these stories, and they are always aimed at Africa and the middle East. They often don't mention the West or the East. They use strong emotional wording and breed a racist view of the issue. For those reasons, I did not read the article you shared.

I encourage you to always research the issue and "attack the message". But that means going a step further than stomaching the message that an article says and trying to broadly understand the problem.

I know of cases where it happened with Christians but far more subtly. Iron fisted, Bible thumping control freaks controlling their children. "Be ye not unequally yolked."

Check out the royal family ancestry with regard to strategic weddings.

Arranged marriages are common in other countries and immigrants bring the customs here. The girl doesn't have to wed the parent's choice but not doing so can be fatal.

We saw a 10 year old girl, dressed in native fiery and bejeweled, posing for pictures in the Allen Garden greenhouse. Obviously for a nuptial negotiation.

Most of the members here have been around long enough that we are numb or jaded to the point that when we see these stories we put it down to the world not being a nice place.
Should we try to convert them to see what we perceive to be a error in their ways?
Send more humanitarian aid?
Or keep with this ****?

Lol. Or check out GOT and all other medieval romances for examples of strategic weddings.

Cultures/traditions evolve and differ between families, just like any other culture we might be familiar with. Some arranged marriages now involve dates before the wedding and the couple have some influence to call it off. They generally are arranged years in advance so the marriage happens when they are older.

My wife worked with a Gal that had an arranged marriage while they were working together. She was excited and had anticipation for her nuptials, parents had arranged it when she was an early teen . She absolutely could have called it off , but it was her south Asian culture and she was onside with it . No idea of how they are a decade in . Probably fine .
The ones that disturb me are the cooking accidents where the bride falls face first into an oil pot , or the girl wants out and somebody dumps acid on her . That I just don’t get on any level.
