Why ducati?

How come when everyone talks about getting a bike all they think of is the ducati? I mean am I the only one who never really like them that much? Is like every rider wants to buy a duc, but why?

Don't get me wrong I like the bike and would ride it if I could, but is it really that great? as a bike in general? Is just everyone I know thinks a monster is the s*** and here I am looking at other bikes and finding more interest in other brands...

Is like the canada goose jacket, it is so over kill that it now looks like a uniform...

I mean what is it that people see on them?

I find people are all talk......until it comes down to putting their money where their mouth is.

There have been a few Duc's on this forum sitting for sale for a long time with no takers.

There's a Diavel for sale that was apparently a "steal of a deal", yet still languishes at Peninsula Imports on consignment.

.

I like mine for the comfortable riding position/ergonomics. Plus it looks damn cool IMO. Reliability? No issues whatsoever. If the Jap makers produced an I4 bike like the Hyper, I would be all over it...and yes it does turn heads but that's not the point of riding.

I think the Monsters are pretty cool looking bikes, but other than that I'm not overly gaga about getting one.

Before I knew much about bikes, when I heard the name 'Ducati' thrown around I thought of it as the Ferrari of motorcycles. But now to me it's just another brand.

I assume other Italian exotic brands such as the MV Agusta, Aprilia, Bimoto, Moto Guzzi and such are not as well known as Ducati...? Plus Ducati is in alot of the races, more than the other brands

But just to throw in there, personally i would like a MV agusta F3 oro, dammmn that thing is just niiiicccccccccceeeeeeee.................

^^ Sorry?

Ducati is not over represented in racing. In fact i'd say Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki (other than MotoGP) are way more represented.

With that being said Ducati has one thing going for them. Brand recognition. Ducati is synonymous with "cool" sport bikes.

Every time I looked at my shiny yellow 1098 in my garage I got a buzz. I can walk past my gixxer without a second glance. In saying that the gixxer has been more reliable and is easier to ride. My first ever bike was an Italian way back in 1980 so I\ve always had a thing for the slightly different.

As to Sunny S comment about people being all talk, well I had mine for sale for about 12 months before it finally sold. Had loads of stupid offers from people. The ironic thing is the first person who came to actually see the bike fell in love right away and went and bought it. The problem with the used market for Ducs (as I see it) is that used prices mean you can almost buy a brand new Jap 600 and buyers also fret about stupid maintenance bills. In truth my 1098 cost me no more to maintain than my gixxer. Only real difference was parts were harder to find and bling was generally more expensive.

If I was to ride street again I honestly have no idea what I'd buy but i'd probably be looking at used Ducs before anything else.

If they are wanting a bike because of its racing background. You cannot do better than Honda. They are in both Motorcycles and Formula 1.
Last time I checked, the other makes never entered Formula 1.

Next would be Suzuki since they are represented in various forms of motorsports other then motorcycles.

But your average poser and squid don't really have this knowledge.

So are you calling Ducati owners posers and squids? If so how do you get to that conclusion?

The MV Augusta is a very sexy bike......so is the Ducati Streetfighter S *drool*

My buddy rode a 747 down the west coast and he said that it was the most uncomfortable ride ever. BUT he said when he took around the twisties it handled corners like a beast and it made his entire trip worth it. Not sure if you other duc riders experienced that or not.

Do people mod Ducs? I've really only ever seen stock ones.

I'm not surprised. Jumbo jets are a bit wide to get your leg over.

If you've only ever seen stock Ducatis then you need to walk out the dealers and look on the street.

well not to be rude but most duc owners i've seen are squids or just wear some lame Danier leather jacket .. very rarely I see them with proper gear, and I don't mean a simple leather jacket but an actual motorcycle jacket.

but a side from that posing stuff, it seems like the ducati is brand that acts as a Ferrari or Lambo in the bike world... Anyways, in real experience are these bikes worth the $$? do they perform and feel well? can the bike hold up or are they going to blow up due to overheat??

what is people's opinion on this brand itself, I mean compared to other brands etc..

And do forgive my ignorance but I have only handle 2 bikes in my life so far a honda and a kawi.

I think arguing with you will be akin to shooting illiterate, noob fish in a barrel.

Nice pic btw, but WTF does it have to do with anything?

I am just asking for Ducati owners /ex-owners opinion about the bikes/brand to be honest, not really arguing or debating...

There is a heritage and craftmenship to Ducati that can not be matched by anyone else. The monster line is like buying a tee shirt and having the ability to say you ride a Ducati.

The sound, even those dry clutches rattling around are music to some. (including me). You sit in them. They are so narrow. Everything seems to have purpose.

I wouldn't want to commute on the 400 series for very long but, for touring some two lane black top in search of curves, it would be a dream of mine.

For now, I'll enjoy the character of Harley's bastard child Buell. Not in the same class of course but, bikes should evoke a passion. Even when the bike is parked. Ducati has that in spades.
