Why do bicycle lane split without getting $***

I had a "precious moment" with a cyclist last weekend on Bloor West. Judging by his attire, he was obviously hardcore. He was whipping along darting in and out of the half lane beside parked cars, occasionally cutting into traffic in the left lane. I passed him, then shifted into the right lane to pass a line of slow vehicles in the left lane while cautiously watching for pedestrians and doors. He rides up behind me, and in my mirror I can see he is getting huffy because he wants to go faster and I am blocking his way. I don't feel it is safe to go faster given the flow of traffic so I hold my speed. He starts darting back and forth from right to left lane trying to pass me. I am laughing. So I slow down even more to match the flow in the left lane. He gets REALLY mad.

Finally we reach a light and he gets in front of the cars in the left and pulls up beside me. Then he proceeds to lecture me about how unsafe it is for me to be riding in the half-lane on a motorcycle. Especially (for some reason) as I am riding a BMW!! "Are you gong to get there that much faster?" he asks. "Don't you know someone could open their door and you would be toast?" I am laughing under my helmet.

The light turns and we take off. I pull up ahead and get back into the left lane midway through the next block as there are right-turners lined up at the next intersection. He gets back into the right lane, blasts by me, weaves around the traffic and blows through the red light the the next light without slowing down.

Wow.

A couple of weeks back another member of the board had to stick around for a bicycle vs. pickup incident on Yonge Street. The cyclist picked a fight over a presumed slight, punching off the truck's mirror. The truck won the fight.
 
All E-bikes riders are required to wear helmets as is, and if either the pedals are removed, or the motor is more than 500W, then it is considered a motor vehicle.

Honestly, people seem to ride E-bikes as if they're unlicensed motorcycles anyways. Maybe it is a good idea to make them easier to police?
As far as I was aware if it has no pedals it's considered basically the same as a gas powered scooter or moped which requires a motorcycle helmet, not bicycle helmet.

E-biker lane splits you, you knock him off the bike, who's fault is it?
 
you can lane split and use the bicycle lane without getting in **** too...I do it all the time.
just don't get caught.
 
Pedals or no pedals as far as CC is concerned, it's a motor vehicle as it has a means of propulsion other than muscles. With that being said, they can get hammered as they're riding home from LCBO and the cops won't bother them. There's a dangerous murdercycle rider doing 65 in a 60 :cool:

My understanding was that the CCC section should be interpreted as "solely propelled or driven by any means other than muscular power" by design, but this case would tend to indicate otherwise:

At least I'm in good company there, as police don't seem to know either.

They will keep not knowing until one of those electric scooters bowls over a stroller.

so what was the final verdict on if the ebike is considered a motor vehicle, find it hard to understand the supreme courts ruling.

That isn't an SCC decision but it suggests that a E-bike is a motor vehicle. The decision states that the crown proved all elements of the offence. (I skimmed it though)

Yup, the elements of the charge were satisfied but the charges were stayed due to "officially induced error." He asked someone who should know if he was clear to ride the e-bike, despite being under prohibition to operate a motor vehicle, and was given incorrect information.
