Why do 95% of you drive into parking spots instead of backing in? (Cars or trucks)

I know it is faster driving in, but you lose that time later. For me, I've always found it to be safer and easier to back in because:

  • I know nothing is behind me
  • I don't have to think as much about my front end swing
  • It is easier to drive out of the spot as it is easier to see what is coming
So, if you are one of the people that always drives into parking spots, why? Is there some advantage to driving in that I am missing?

Nope... They are just poor drivers that lack the confidence in backing in without hitting anything.
As a driver of a fullsize pick up, I pretty much have to back in so I can get out of the spot later, especially in lots where the spaces are only a few inches wider than my truck.

It's safer too for the reasons you mentioned. I don't have to worry so much about the parking lot speed demon as I back out.

I always back it in, unless I need easy access to the trunk at places like Costco or getting groceries...

If i back in I loose valuable advertising.. :D

That said.. it's nearly impossible to see out the back, so I back out VERY slowly..

a lot of people arent as comfortable with reversing between 2 spots
some people when they get there... want to just get there FASTARRRRR lol
easier to manoeuvre when people park like ******* (too often)
other people waiting behind you wont even have the time to think of getting impatient

...hmmm thats all that i can come up with

I'm all about the pull through

It only takes me maybe 2 extra seconds to back my truck in. And if they get impatient and pushy, I'll purposely take me sweet time.

However, I do normally look for a spot near the back of the lot so I can just pull through and have less chance of being next to someone who will open their door in to my truck, and get the extra bit of exercise that most people should be doing anyways.

I have a system for where I'll park my truck, similar to the whole "urinals in a public bathroom" scenarios.

Because I have clear access to my hatch.

This also, if I`m in the SUV, I can`t open the back if I`ve backed in.. same with mini-vans.

If it's Costco or similar, I pull in to get access to hatch. I always back into my driveway, too many pedestrians on sidewalk to risk backing out of.

I normally park further away and pull through, otherwise I back in.

It's even more critical for a bike, since your paddlefooting backwards, into the live traffic aisle.

Silly Diesel, expecting people to think when driving. I prefer drive throughs myself.

Beware however. Some idiot suggested that if you did it in the winter you could save time because you didn't have to clear all your windows if it snowed.

I drive a pick up almost always back in.

5th Gen Camaros have absolutely horrible blind spots and are a pain in the *** to back up, in my opinion. At least I have a rear sensor, but I still rather drive in.

At the store/mall for trunk access. Anywhere else like the movie theatre etc. I back in unless someone is gearing up to steal my spot.

In Alberta you'll find most parking lots have sign telling you not to back in. But that's because vehicles don't have license plate on the front of the vehicle or maybe there's another reason I don't know.

Besides the backing in part is not so hard it's aligning the vehicle to be as close to the middle of the parking spot where most people have trouble. Rather people go head first dead center of their parking spot than fudgly around their parking spot making door dents and possibly taking up 2 spaces.

I pull in sometimes because that's the only way to throw **** in the box of my truck after shopping.

Rookies.
