Why Android is better than iPhone.

what is so great about flash, what am i missing if i don't have flash?

So you seem to be recognising now that flash is still an important part of the "everyday browsing" experience. So maybe your question should be rephrased to "What's so great about having flash integrated into a my single "everyday" browser, what am I missing other than browsing speed and expense if I don't have integrated flash?"

Which pretty much answers itself.

There is nothing to setup, unless you call downloading the app part of setup. Not sure how it works, but flash is done on the server end, so the iPad itself is not loading the flash. As I said in my post, it loads as quickly as my MacBook Pro loads those flash sites. Its as smooth.

Its free to try, but then $4.99 I think to buy. I didnt buy it, I dont need flash for my web usage.

Thanks for the info. Annoying that you have to pay but at least it's an option.

Yes, would be nice if the iPad did have it. Always nice to have options. For me, I could care less, as sites I go to do not have flash and sites I search, 99% are clean of flash.

Though the option is there as I showed with the iSwifter app, and for $4.99, its an easy add on to a great device. I would read reviews before purchasing though, as my usage of it was light, basically to check out those top 10 flash sites. They all ran and loaded no problem.

i could do without flash, the same way my Macbook Air could do without a CD bay(Slot-loading optical drive).

i can always attach a USB CD drive(if needed, or i could use one wirelessly).

Because every application these days can be downloaded(Mac AppStore), even my OS..(OSX Lion) was downloaded, or you can use USB sticks.

even GTAM right now, i can see all the ads, and they are not flash.

Yes...but browing the internet might mean visiting sites that do have flash content...on a cheapo android tablet you can see 100% of the web and on an expensive iPad you can't unless you have work-arounds like above. That's the big problem here. An ideal device could do it all out of the box.

Dude you are not getting it, Apple is refusing to add Flash to their iOS devices for the better.
and it's because Apple said NO TO FLASH, thats why HTML5 is doing it big right now, because its the better choice.

thats why we have Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD, because one out-did the other, by being chosen.

HTML5 will be the chosen one....because APPLE said so!!!!!!....for good reasons too.

even Flash does HTML5 now.

I can do without it to, but i would like more options then fewer.

I personally dont want to do without a cd/dvd drive at this point in time. Older software that is not available for download, software I have backed up to disc rather then copy large 4 + gig installers across a network, and not needing another thing to plug into my MacBook Pro. Most things are available for download, but I hope they do not get rid of the CD/dvd drive just yet. Pro use I want it, my home use, I can do without.

I use my dvd drive about twice a year. I could make due with an external one to save weight and battery.

Adobe Flash is like a parasite. It does not obey browser cookie settings, it has more security holes then IE6, it allows for all kinds of malicious code that goes undetected to be executed because it lives outside of the browser and to top it all off it allows for those horrific slow to load into pages that some people create. I for one consider lack of flash a success filter. If I can't see your site because it has flash, your site is not worth while.

On the flip side, it is still the more common way to embed media content into a page (although HTML5 is getting there). I can't wait for the day when both Flash and it's Microsoft counterpart (Silverlight) are both dead.

iphone dev team jailbroke the iphone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5......not release ready(no ETA's)...stay tuned!!!!

New Apple Store app launches Thursday; here’s how it will change Apple’s retail operations

While information about Apple’s new iOS app and retail plans have leaked out in various forms over the past few weeks, we now have the whole story thanks to a trusted source. On Thursday, Apple’s new retail store app for iOS will launch, and it will bring two major features with it. First, it will enable online ordering with retail store pick up. This has already started happening in a few stores in California and New York City Apple stores as well, and more stores will go live on Thursday. Hit the jump for details on what happens when you place an order through the app to pick up in a retail store nearby.
  • If a customer orders an in-stock product, pick up will be available approximately 12 minutes after completing the order. Why 12 minutes? Well, the order goes through the system to the designated Apple Store in about 3 minutes. Apple’s back-of-house employees have 2 minutes to set all of the products aside on a shelf from the minute it was ordered. There is then a 7-minute grace period for employees to get everything else in order. Around 12 minutes after purchasing, customers will be able to walk into the Apple Store, skip lines, skip registers, get their products, sign for them and leave. We’re told Apple is really excited about this, and it’s something customers have been seeking for a while.
  • If a customer orders something that a retail store does not have in-stock, like a custom-configured machine, an accessory the store does not carry, or something like an engraved or gift-wrapped device, the customer will be a given a pick-up date right after the purchase is completed. Everything will have free shipping when sent to an Apple retail store. Once the order arrives at the Apple Store and is available for pickup, a push notification will be sent to the customer through the Apple Store app, letting him or her know the order is ready. We’re told the same 12-minute timeframe applies here as well: 12 minutes from the time the push notification is received, the customer’s order should be waiting to be signed for.
  • We have been told customers who opt to purchase online or through the app will be given priority when they walk into the store over a customer waiting for a retail specialist, and that Apple expects the majority of customers over the next few years to use the in-store pick up option as their default method of buying products. This will help with foot traffic in retail stores while also reducing the cost of shipping for Apple, and possibly even reducing the number of stores Apple needs to open to accommodate sales.
  • Apple will offer customers the ability to return items purchased online to retail stores.
  • Lastly, we’re told that Apple will be attributing revenue from items purchased in this manner to the retail store where the items are delivered and retrieved. This should help create new job opportunities since hiring at Apple Stores is based on sales. Apple is reportedly expecting a 30% increase in sales at retail stores from this program, and it will only be available in the U.S. for now.
The other major feature coming in Apple’s new app? Customer self check-out at retail stores. This is a huge deal and Apple is the first to be able to put it together. Here is how this will work: after you find the item you want to buy, like an accessory, you launch the Apple Store app on your iOS device and there will be an option to buy a product in the store. You scan the product with the camera on your device in the app, click purchase, and it will charge whatever credit card is associated to your Apple ID. You then just walk out of the store. Yes, we have been told that Apple will not be checking purchases which seems hard to believe, but this self check-out option will launch Thursday worldwide at all Apple retail stores.

Re: sweet

My battery life was garbage on the first day.. then I disabled some usage/statistics location services, as well as 'ask to join wifi' option because it kept finding thousands of networks all day long and asking me to join.

After that it went back to my 3GS levels... a day of moderately heavy usage ends up at 50% by bed-time. Superawesomephone.

Re: sweet

  • Complaints about iPhone 4S battery life mount
  • Some iPhone owners say their batteries drain much faster than advertised
  • Apple has not publicly acknowledged the concerns
  • Comments on a post on Apple's support forums go for 185 pages
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/11/01/tech/mobile/iphone-4s-battery-life/index.html?&hpt=hp_c2

its been said to turn off "setting time zone", that does the trick.

and for those that don't do their homework, an update can simply fix that....done.

Re: sweet

No problems with my 4S battery, its just like my old 4.

Hopefully with the new apple stores and the reserve online, things run better then they did for reserving your 4S via the Apple website. Constant server overload made it almost impossible to get through and actually reserve what you want. Took me a few days before I could actually get to place my order.
