Why America is the best country in the world.

so which continent is central America located on? I always thought North America consisted of just the three countries.

Wow, you guys are funny.

America is neither continent nor country, it is "in" both. There are two continents that make up the western hemisphere, North America and South America split by the Panama Canal. Politicly, Central America is with South while Mexico stands with Canada and the USA.

Yup, a.k.a. The USA, the states, the gringos, etc., but the fact is they don't have an actual country name.

They are a number of colonial states that got together to form an autonomous union, that goes by the name of... United States (how unique), and they are in which continent? America!

Ergo, the name they go by nowadays.

You should try and read a bit more before criticising without a solid fundament, ¡diot.

You still don't get it. And even after OpenGambit's explanation you still don't understand. So I can only assume that you are trying to remain ignorant, or you do not have the mental capacity to understand. I highly suspect the latter.

Technically, America is one continent with a northern and southern large mass, artificially divided by a channel. Most American nations don't like the fact that the gringos refer to themselves as Americans since it confuses the matter, so they typically use the term "Estados Unidos" (United States) when referring to that particular country.

No, it's one island, it is TWO continents. The western hemisphere is not America, it is the western hemisphere.

Actually I think South America starts at the Darien Gap which is the Columbian/Panamanian border. The Panama canal just separates parts of northern Panama from southern Panama.

Panama is a brilliant place to visit, I've been there a couple of times and travelled all over. You can do everything you would do in Costa Rica more quickly and much cheaper with less tourists. The only thing you might miss is any hiking around volcanic areas, they have volcanoes but they are extinct as opposed to say Arenal in Costa Rica which is still very active. Roads are pretty good too if anyone plans on taking a bike. If you stay in a downtown Panama City hotel you can be in the rainforest in 15-20 mins by a cheap cab ride. Short flights to David or Bocas will let you stay on the slopes of extinct volcanoes and visit coffee plantations or, shack up in a hotel built on stilts that sits in crystal clear waters of an island archipelago while you call water taxis to take you from island to island.

I haven't done it yet but there's a holiday camp set up on a prison island surrounded by shark infested waters where you are served by the more trusted prisoners and also a village built inside an extinct volcano crater not too far away on the mainland too. Probably going back this winter to explore a bit more. Highly recommended.

Edit: Just in case you think this is a rich man's vacation, it isn't. Flights to Panama can be had cheap when they come up on offer and hotels in Panama City can come in around $25US a night...only I don't recommend those for the more squeamish of you...as most of them are brothels. I know as I booked two of them and while I had a fantastic view of the Panama Canal in one of them, the wake up call in the morning was........different. Spend a bit more, cheap hotels in the other cities are mostly fine though. Internal flights are cheap and buses are cheap too. Grab a backpack and have fun.

And this is my last post on this thread, as clearly there will be no end to this. Just a suggestion to the "knowledgeable" people, read more. A lot more.
