She needs a bath, but new toy is home. 2023 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse - used with 408kms on the clock when i left Kitchener with her. Got her for a song, all things considered. @bigpoppa your move

I'll post more pics after a wash.

Was a glorious day to ride.
Such a beautiful bike. Loved my Victory and would love to get an Indian. Very reliable and easy to work on.

Looks like ice fishing season is over......did it even start??
When I stopped over in Port Perry down by the park on water st, I swear I saw a couple of huts out on the ice. I dunno if it was was really safe with the temps and all.

... and butter tarts. We go for long rides just for those!

And ice cream. Never, ever forget the ice cream. My record for ice cream is something like 300km lol.

You and evo can have a contest to see who can scrape the most off their floorboards in a season.

I have a head start, I touched down on mine on the new bike for the first time on my ride last week. Still feeling things out before really starting to toss it around harder, so I was a bit surprised honestly.

On my old VTX I'd wore them down to the point where you could probably slice meat with them by the time I sold it lol. Pic from the tail.

Was gonna head out then I heard the thunder, and ice pellets raining down...kind of glad I didnt...

I've got money on evo, he rode sport bikes before joining the pirate life.

Probably right. PP may do more miles though. He also has a few hundred pounds extra weight to grind faster.

We are talking about the bike, right??

Lol. Just kidding.

Can an ADV guy enter this competition as well?

Thx to veteq for the pic.

Valid question. Can confirm I have a weight (*ahem*) "advantage" as well. 😜

Annnnd the parts ordering has begun, lawd. Certainly racked up the TD points in the last

I've spent a good part of Saturday and a few evenings after work bolting things on and wiring stuff up on the new ride now that it's been warm enough (plus some propane heat) to make working in my garage decent.

So far.....

- USB dual power plugs on the handlebars by my phone holder, wired to a relay that shuts it off when the ignition is off so there's no phantom draw.

- 2 new cigarette lighter plugs in the left cubby with constant power. One for heated vest, the other for whatever. Sometimes I want to charge my intercom when at a stop on a long day and I need a constant power source, so it'll probably get used for that - can lock intercom in cubby when charging that way and don't need to leave the ignition on. Just need to remember to unplug the usb charger from the cig port when done, that phantom draw thing again.

- Cup holder. Of the utmost importance. Must have coffee.

- Currently wiring a 40a circuit to the top box to run my various things back there. Had a small 300w inverter in the previous bike for charging stuff that needs 120v when motocamping and that proved super handy, so I'm prepping for that again with heavy power back there. Also, 2 more USB plugs for charging USB stuff - tent fan, USB lights, whatever else. Sadly I expect to be a CPAP user soon as well so I'll use it to charge my battery through the day for that as well when motocamping.

- Got the USB stick with a firmware update for the infotainment unit, but I'm afraid to start that as I've seen it go horribly wrong on friends bikes (speaking of Indians, that's another story) and since dealer support for these bikes is virtually nil it seems in many cases, I don't want to get into that whole ball of wax. Still thinking.

- Replacing all my "places I've been" stickers I salvaged from the inside lid of my top box onto the new one, those that were salvageable. A few didn't make it.

- Installed factory cargo rack on the top box. Interesting engineering discovered when I removed the cosmetic top cover to install it, Yamaha really thought these bikes out. Shame they abandoned them.

- Just waiting for new backrest to arrive via Shippsy so I can get that on as well.

With all that done, I'm ready to rock.

Did you get the leather bar end tassels? I think those are necessary for proper handling on an Injun.

Just snagged a wireless android/carplay device that should let me get android working on the bike - recently switched away from iphone and it only comes with carplay stock
Bag lights (brake/signal/hazard), gonna tidy up the stock LEDs and remove em
Klockwerks screen, a bit more coverage of my shoulder areas
Dynamat for the fairing, people swear it helps with the speakers

Got my eye on;

Adaptive LED headlight, it comes with LED stock but I want the adaptive feature to throw more light into the corners..had it on a few previous bikes and it's well worth it (imo)
10 setting heated grips
High Flow air intake
Lower profile crash bars with highway pegs

I'm also considering higher handle bars but i'll see how some extended time makes me feel before pulling that trigger.

On the topic of power, my bike comes with a built in plug for heated gear/batter tender in the cockpit.

If he rides in the city much, a getback whip may be more appropriate.

These silly things always make me laugh, not only because if they're made legally they have zero functionality, if used as "intended" (and they do have illegal weights on the end) they put you in an insane level of harms way of the cager you decide to swing it at decides to take you out instead, and at best only serve to potentially cause you to crash if it gets yanked somehow, since most seem to hook them to their front brake lever.

And lastly, many that I see out there are just glorified horse leads that have been shortened - if you go look in horse tack shops you'll find a lot of the same parts lol. Those of us in the horse world and motorcycle worlds both always get a good chuckle.

So....a few days of rain in the forecast followed by a flash-freeze tomorrow and snow in many areas.

You know what that means....tons of fresh salt on the road again.

And back to 9 degrees on Friday.

I have to keep reminding myself it's only February, but I'd really love a nice sunny 15 degree day right now.

Does the new beast have vents like a goldwing to keep you warm or is it passive engine heat along with heated seat/grips/clothing?

Nothing specific like the wing. My one wing riding buddy always mentions his toe & foot heaters when we're riding in cold weather lol.

The 4 wind deflectors on the side can be adjusted to either direct air away, or suck air in however. With them pointed out, wind protection is solid and I found even on the cool day I was out I was quite comfortable.
