Who The Hell Is "Intact" Insurance? They Raise My Rate $200

Im with Jevco (Duffy Insurance), been with them since 2004 and now suddenly I received a package in the mail yesterday from Intact Insurance welcoming me to their company/policy and raising my rates to $200 more a year, WTF?

Im immediately shopping for a new ins company and even if they charge me the same I will move anyways. I have had a drivers licence sinve 1989 and a motorcycle licence since 2004 with NO tickets and NO claims, clean record. My motorcycle is a 2003 sport-tourer and is 1-way insurance.

How can Duffy Ins do this to me? Or did they go out of business? There's NO way in hell Im going to pay $674 a year for bike insurance (up from $460). My buddy is younger than me got his M licence a year after me and pays $740 for a R6 full-cover.

I'm with Jevco and they've been sending mailings about this Intact buyout for at least a year (with warning of the increase). Mine went up as well, but on a vintage bike my hands are tied.

My Brother in law did some of the under writing for them during the merger, he said that their rates went up because of the amount of bogus claims they have been dealing with in the GTA. So everything got reclassified. He told me how there were going to be people who would get dropped entirely for having big displacement bikes and such. OP check to see what classification your bike now falls under that could be why you went up 200 or it could be where you live (postal code)

Your lucky.... mine doubled. Talking to a woman with State farm who's got awesome rates for me. Definately switching.

Mine went up about 100$ a year. I've called a couple other places but the best I've found so far has been 50$ more than I pay right now.

I never got a letter from Jevco about anything but Googling the subject I now know whats going on... I was even directef to this same forum lol. Anyways Im flying the coop, screw these guys, if this is their welcome imagine how they will treat me in every renewal, does Bell Mobility owns this company by any chance?

I pay 3000/year insurance, 674 really isn't bad for Ontario.

Mine dropped $850 a year this term with Intact.

D

All is right with the world - wouldn't be spring without an insurance rant from Peggy.

Check out Riders Plus Insurance. I must have called 20 places and the 2 lowest quotes I recieved were from State Farm and Riders Plus. Riders Plus was way cheaper! I just took the M1 safety course with Learning Curves a few weeks ago in Sarnia. They were awesome!

Bullcrap, there has always been bogus claims in the GTA, and what do I have to do with that? I shouldn't be punished for slackers, that's why we have the "clean record" system don't we? BTW I have a 750cc sport-tourer, nothing fast or dangerous.

I thought you got a big-boy R6 peggy?

My insurance (Jevco/Intact) went from $600 to $679 for a 150cc 2005 Vespa ET4. Rider is 50+ with clean driving record and no claims in 15+ years. This is a bs rate for a Vespa. Give me a break :(

Checked with my carrier (Aviva) for my 800cc Suzuki Boulevard and I can add the Vespa for about $460 per year.

Bye bye Intact

I was with Jevco for years. Intact took over and offered me a $200 increase on my 30 year old bike. No tickets, nothing. I switched to Desjardins and ended up paying even less than I did with Jevco. Lowest rate in 4 years. Damned if I'm helping Intact with the cost of buying Jevco.

The fact that losses like that are passed onto the consumer is unique to the insurance industry (and almost unique to Ontario's insurance industry). In almost every other industry, companies take it upon themselves to stop crime relating to their products, because otherwise they have to raise prices, or fail. Insurance is just the only industry that doesn't have to give a crap about fraud, because they'll just keep raising the rates, and we'll just keep paying them.

Yep Rat bastards for sure.... My rates went up over $300.. My broker got treated to a long list of four letter words... It's not the broker though. Rates are set by the insurer. the broker can only get you the best price available for the companies they represent. I'm changing brokers and companies. Intact can suck my left nut.

Yeah I got the same message. Going from $1200/year to $1550ish. Thanks for selling out Jevco. BTW Pegasus, I have a 750cc "sport-tourer" as well (Okay a 1986 Yamaha FZ 750) - My broker said I had the best possible rating I could have with Jevco. So why was I paying 3x as much as you? (I'm 28 - that can't be all). And who is your buddy with insuring an R6 for 740?
