Who knows about 1984 KZ1100R ?

In 1984, Kawasaki was offering a one year edition of KZ1100R.
I am currently looking for a winter project and would like to find such a KZ1100R (assuming they can be found...). But I would like an original one, not a "converted" KZ1000 or other model of KZ1100.
So, if I ever find one, I would like to compare the chassis VIN to the official list of canadian 1984 KZ1100R VIN.

Is there such a VIN list for this precise model?
Also, is there a list of engine serial numbers for those bikes?

Thanks for any help!!

Cool bike. It looks like the quick test is VIN 6 or 7 being R.

"All genuine ELR models have the all important “R” in the VIN. The North American market bikes had the “R” as the 7th digit in the VIN, whilst the bikes sold in certain other select worldwide markets had the “R” as the 6th digit."

lol I'll check Woody's museum, that almost sounds like something he would have.

Since there were 1300 in the world in 1984, the odds of him having one are low, but still better odds than most other places in Ontario. Sadly most are probably in collections or basket cases at this point.

I'm kind of a newbie here: what is "Woody's museum"?
I googled and found such a museum in Texas but it is for cars and for baseball. But I don't think they would sell one if they had one and, anyway, they are way too far...

I'm afraid you are probably right... I'll keep looking though...

Hey, you've got the right attitude. You may be able to find one that is treasured but the current owner is unwilling or unable to invest the time and money to get it back on the road. I know there are members here with rides that fit that description. Seeing it go to someone that would treasure it is more important than getting top dollar.

Oh yeah, it will be a good home I would offer to that bike if I ever find one... (right between my current Versys 1000 and MT01...)
Do you think GTA is a good place to make such a search? I'm asking as the focus here is maybe on newer bikes...

NB: I already registered on "KZ1000R.com" and "KZRider.com"

When searching for rare vehicles, I like the shotgun approach. Put out feelers everywhere. You're looking for the bike in the back corner of someones garage or in Grandpa's barn. You need to get as many eyeballs helping you as possible.

Good luck
They're out there.
Have you met Steve Darlington? He is the "KZ" guy in VRRA.
Are you a member of CVMG? Do you know Johnny Bent? 905 273 3717
I have most of a Canadian '83 I would be willing to part with.

... the '82 1000cc was the collectable ELR. The Suzuki GS was/is a better bike.

Jeff Cashman use to find the bike or bikes and then watch the obituaries :|
... miss Jeff, he liked to ride lots.

I wonder where all his bikes went  probably to somebody that seen his obituary.

I have a SERIOUS hate for people that do that.
He got some amazing bikes that way. I never did business with him I just rode with him.
Gotta be at least 12 people on here that did do business with him at some time

I'm a french speaking newbie guy from province of Quebec so I know anyone you named...

VRRA = Vintage Road Racing Association? This big KZ is not really a racing bike; you think I can get info/support there?

CVMG = Must be for Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group. Looks like it could be a great place to have a look. Not a member but will look at this pretty soon. Who is Johnny Bent and what could it do to help me?

What do you have out of your "most of a canadian '83"? Could it be used as a starting point for a restauration project? Just asking in case I find no KZ1100R.

I know the '82 is the collectable but nostalgia got me stuck on the 1984. I still have the OEM sales brochure I got at the dealer back then.
Oh and I also know the GS was better; it was printed all over the magazines back then. But I'm more of a Kawasaki guy. Maybe if I was to find a GS1000 Wes Cooley edition but they must be as hard to find...

Lovely bike. It was always one of my favourites.

I think the 84 is quite sought after as it was Kawasaki’s "last kick" at the 2 valve motor. It had bigger valves, different combustion chambers, bigger crank journals, different cams, etc.

Fingers crossed you will find one. I think it would be a great bike to ride
