so today got cut off by a minivan on dvp cuz traffic was slow. it wasn't a close call cuz i saw it coming so i rode on the right shoulder to dodge the van. gave him/her a thumb down. i clicked my horn but the stock horn is pretty useless. i'd like a louder horn so in case it happens in the future at least it will get the cager's attention.

stebel is kinda large and it needs to be level or it won't work properly i read. i got my eye on the dual fiamm freeway blaster setup. one horn has high tone, the other has low tone. but i read reviews on amazon and whatever site came up on google. some ppl say it's really loud and some say it's not that loud so i'm not sure who to believe.

what do ya think? thanks.

I too am in the market for a horn. I read that the stebels seem to fail when wet. I'm looking @ the Hella horns right now. I don't have any useful input right now but I'll update this thread when I do get something.

I feel silly whenever I have to use my little horn that sounds like a buzzer from a kids toy. I'm not looking for anything crazy, but I would like something a little more substantial. Actually I think I have a Fiamm from a car installation in my garage. I'm going to give it a try.

I have a stebel. It works great and is really loud. You need room to attach it to the bike.

Its loud but not as loud as you'd expect out of a $50 horn. Definitely better than the stock horn but more of a hassle to mount.

Stebel's loud enough.. I got it mounted on my Fizzer and the only sound issues I ever had were from bad grounding (since then, I reran the ground). It definitely works on the occasional dumb cager, better than the stock horn.

I have a Stebel but haven't installed it yet. I know it's at least 128DB though... Plenty loud :D

Edit: Just looking back at the site today and it seems there's a newer, more compact version. It's 30% smaller. That would help solve the problem of fitting inside the fairings I imagine. That's why mine still isn't installed yet....it's gonna have to be shoe-horned in if I do it!

If you get the Stebel, make sure that the compressor is mounted upright. I had mine crammed into the fairings at a funny angle and the compressor started crapping out on me. Nothing like not being sure of whether or not your horn is going to work to make you think about the little things in life.

It is pretty goddamn loud. It's a high pitched kind of loud, though, and there's a very slight delay from when you press the button to when you get maximum loudness. I recommend duel wielding it with the stock horn for multi-pitched goodness.

I just put a stebel on my VFR, it fit nicely up in and above the left rad.

Have not used it on the road yet, but I'm sure I will find a chance.

This is my setup on both bikes:
2 badboy dual tone air horns
2 fiamm highway blaster (one high and one low tones)
1 Stock horn

and yes the scare the cr@p out of people trying to cut me off.

I've had a Stebel for a while...haven't fitted it yet as I have no idea where the monster will go.

wait so u have 5 horns per bike? or dual badboy on one bike, and dual fiamm on the other? how do you like the loudness of the dual fiamms? thanks

Okay, so I installed this thing tonight. I don't know. It doesn't sound that much louder, but I haven't done anything but just tap it in the garage. I'll report later. I bought this a few years ago. No dB level on it, but apparently it's "twice as loud".

Just bolt on, but I had to fiddle around with it quite a bit, trying to place it so it wouldn't rub against my radiator and wasnt going to hit the top of the front fender.

Review will follow.

My Stebel is LOUD. No problems with horn, have laid on it an not killed it. No problem with water getting in there. etc. I used a purpose built harness from www.easternbeaver.com so it would have less chance to fail by bad wiring when I need it.

works great when the person who cut you off has their window open and you up next to them.. :)

what if you have TWO of these going off? LOL

I run dual Fiamm Freeway Blasters, one high and one low tone. I took them off an SUV at a local junkyard. They are plenty loud. Run them using a relay with the stock horn as the trigger and run power straight from the battery.

My bike sounds like an SUV, which is what I want.

oh yeah how do u mount the fiamm? maybe it's the angle of the pic but seems like the fiamm has no mounting points

No picture of the back the stock horn and the fiamm have a single mounting bolt in the centre on the back. I would have used that stock mounting arm that is still attached to the stock horn in the picture, but the bolt on the back of the fiamm is too short to go through the rubber mounting grommet, so I used an included mounting arm.
