Who do you use for classic car insurance?

I bought my car in the US, and the MTO used my bill of sale and printout of ebay ad to charge taxes on amount paid. Nobody ever mentioned an appraisal of any kind being necessary. Perhaps they would have if the value seemed low or scam-ish.

As a sidenote, importing classic cars from the US is a breeze.

When was that? This appraisal for older cars is a fairly new thing. And apparently sometimes the clerks dot catch the age and it goes through. I tried to play dumb when I first went in but that didn't work lol.

This would've been around September 2012. Given that part of the taxes are paid at the border, and its not reasonable to expect a person to have an appraisal for the car before its even in the country, I don't see them requiring it. The MTO charged me rest of the taxes according to the border paperwork where the actual selling price was declared. I've read of other peoples' more recent experiences and they had the same flow; no appraisals.

I guess they just figured it was legit enough and didn't require the appraisal.

Good to know its easy to import. If this car wasn't so clean I would be looking at a southern car as a roller for my swap.

Just transferred the Corvair into my name. They didn't ask for an appraisal. Whether through negligence or was it a legit procedure - I don't know. I thought I'd try since the office is nearby and I figured there would be no line up with all this snow around in the morning.

Sent the pictures of the car and ownership to Lant, waiting for reply.

Rust painted the hood and the trunk, changed a couple of tires. Waiting for tune up parts now.

Lant was cheap for my Golf. $365 for $23,000 coverage.
