Haggerty keeps coming up on Google searches. What are other good options?
Seems dirt cheap anyhow so I don't care THAT much but if I can save $50 then why not. Looks like I'd be paying around $180 a year for a 1965 Corvair if I appraise it at $6,000.

Anything to look for? Any hidden restrictions? I am aware of the "no shopping," "no taking to work" and "no winter" clauses.

I use Silverwheels for my Camaro & they are pretty good, the only draw backs are...you can't take it to work basically who will ever know unless they follow you, my car has been appraised at 50K and I only pay $565.00 a year full coverage, before I went with Silverwheels my regular insurance company was charging me almost $2400.00 per year...so that's a really good savings!

they wouldn't know your going to work till u have an accident report at 7:30am on a Tuesday on the street by your office. classic vehicle insurance is for cars that aren't considered daily drivers, when I looked there was a km limit per year driven.

Silver Wheels is not a company, it's a name of the plan offered by Hagerty/Lant. They seem to be the largest in that niche. As for mileage - I didn't see any restrictions. I'll give them a call today and figure it out. Incident on your way to work, they will investigate, it's a 50/50. If you can come up with a good reason and there's no proven history/witnesses of you taking the vehicle there on regular basis then you may get away with it. I intend to install tires and do an oil change in the same place I work for. So that would be taking it for service, not going to work. Nevertheless, I have my regular car and a bike for commuting. Any other suggestions?

$30 /mo full coverage from state farm... Could probably get cheaper from hagerty or something but I don't wanna bother

I didn't see any mileage restrictions from them when I signed up as long as you don't take it to work, shopping...I used to put a lot of km's on my Camaro every year but since I bought my bike that has changed, I just put down that I drive the Camaro about 5K to 10K a year...pleasure ofcourse that includes shows here in Canada & in the USA!

That's by far a record low number!
Just curious, what's the make, model, year?

That's who my Father uses for all his cars. Not sure how old you are but you have to had your licence for 10 years and have nothing major on it. I thought he used to tell us that because he didn't want us driving them..lol

Do I Qualify?

Lant Insurance Brokers' ability to offer low premiums is a direct result of our clients being some of the most responsible drivers on the road today. In order to continue to offer these very competitive rates, we must consider several important factors in the approval process:
◾Usage - Our Hagerty Classic Car Insurance provides insurance coverage for vehicles used for hobby and/or collector car activities, and not used for regular transportation (i.e., shopping, vacation, business and to and from work).
◾Security/Storage - Collector vehicles should be stored in a locked garage when not in use.
◾Driving Records - In general, one or two minor traffic convictions or claims are acceptable. We cannot offer coverage to those who have experienced major convictions such as Impaired Driving, Careless/Dangerous Driving or Suspensions within the past 10 years. All operators must be fully licensed over 10 years. Note all household driving records are subject to review.
◾Daily Vehicle Insurance - Every licensed driver must maintain a daily usage vehicle with insurance under his or her own name.
◾Minimum Value - Collector vehicles must have a minimum "market" value of $7,500.

My girlfriend had a 1979 Pinzgauer Swiss Army truck insured with Lant and it cost just under $200 a year.I believe it had an appraised value of $17,000.

I'm just under $200/year on my Trans Am with Haggerty.
As stated, no daily driving type tasks, must be kept in a secure garage. I never was asked about mileage. Considering where I live, I could easily put on nearly 1000km to get to a show, do a cruise and then the drive back, so a KM limit would really end the fun.

They are good with modifications as well. They put a HP limit at 650 and no nitrous. I told them I'm swapping in an LS1 and basically doing a restore and all they want is updates at each step so we can adjust the value of the car.

Were you asked to provide photographs of the vehicle? Did they send you to have the vehicle examined by one of their trusted shops?

You just get an appraiser to come to your house, they will look at the vehicle, take photos, ask what has been done, evaluate the price of the appraisal & within' 2-3 weeks you will have a complete booklet along with a copy with all the info, pics & price at your door!

You then take the copy to Silverwheels and you will pay the insurance that is the price valued accordingly...easy as pie!

I had a Porsche 944 insured through Lant and it was rear ended on the 401 and written off on a week day morning. I was bringing it in for an oil change. No one in insurance land ever asked a question as to where I was going or why I was driving the car at that time. The whole process was quick painless and by far the best experience I have ever had with any insurance company regarding a claim.

I think their rules have changed since you had your beast insured. Looks like they no longer require an appraisal.
This is what posted on Haggerty website:

All they had me do was take a bunch of pictures and I had insurance.
I made sure I took pics of common problem areas for my car so there was proof it was as solid as it looks.

Kinda weird that they had all day yesterday and today and no one called me.
What's the point of filling out that online form then if I have to call myself and provide the same information again. Not the biggest deal though, I'll try to contact Hagerty on Monday.

Picking up the car tomorrow, hopefully no snow up north.

Good news about no appraisals for insurance btw. Less of a hustle. Does MTO want appraisals on old cars or bill of sale good enough as usual? The oldest car I had was from 1994.

With a car over 25 years (or maybe it's 20) you will have to take the car to be appraised for it to be transferred in to your name.
If you let the guy know that it is for the MTO, he will appraise it low if he's a decent guy. My car was appraised for $1000 for that. He then gave me the insurance appraisal value of $7000.

I was able to bring in the bill of sale, ownership and some ID and I had what was basically a temporary ownership and plate so I could drive the car to get appraised and safetied.

I remember when this stuff was easier and cheaper.
