Which to buy as 2nd bike GSXR or CBR (600)

Stator, clutch switch bypass, tank venting.

Google charging issues. you'll find a fair share of those threads.

Stator is a common issue, I'm well aware of that. But bypassing the clutch switch falls back on whoever tried to do it. These bikes are better left alone when it comes to that part.

What do you mean by tank venting?

I would not ride a bike without a slipper clutch, no freaking way, but that is just me.

I was not aware that recent CBR models didn't have one?? To lazy to go research it

THIS is why Im on GTAM ;) ZX600 - why wouldnt you ride w/o a slipper? ( i know what it does: prevents rear wheel lockup when downshifting aggressively), I didnt have any problems downshifting on my 250 - but that said, i wasnt going to fast [250 only pushes to 140-150 :( ]

get on your 250, get it to 160 (which does reach) and drop it down to 2nd and drop the clutch and then you will see why ;)

Doing this without a slipper clutch would represent the wheel locking and powwwwwwwwwww

No slipper? No TC? No gear indicator?

It's all good ... STILL GETTING THE CBR :D

CBR was my first choice, but I ended up falling in love with the r6, mainly because I dont see too many around here. Made me want it more and imo it just looks so sleek and sexeh:D

Honda's are for nancy-boys and small men that have to sit down to pee and write threads disrespecting a chain / era of sportbikes that defined the entire supersport scene. Even their champs suck ~ Casey Stoner (wah).

Edit: Marc Marquez doesn't suck.

:-)

Besides real mean blip, slipper clutches and traction control are for wussies! Gear indicator? What you cant count to 6? :lmao:

Try racing without a slipper. ..hint, it sucks

I actually went through this exact decision last year but it was between the 750 and the 1000 (CBR).

CBRs are known to have weeping suspension and eat oil. I've read some people have experienced up to 500mL/1000km (that's extremely bad) but the manufacturer tolerance is something like 1L/1000km (that means if you don't check your oil ever 2000km~, your bike will explode). And on a neutral point, the CBR has a very smooth power band, this may or may not be to your liking.

GSXRs, in general, are known to blow their r/r which ends up with a toasted stator + battery. This job can end up costing near $1,000 for parts and labor. 2008 to a certain year (not sure) have a recall on this issue but it affects 2005-2007 as well I think. Also, the GSXR is considered the most comfortable SS.

And with regards to the slipper clutch....I've had it save my *** once when I accidentally shifted into 1st exiting a highway with speed. If the slipper wasn't there I would've gone down.

Despite my general disdain for the population of riders, and if not for the "circus-bear-effect" (I am a big guy), I would seriously be considering an e-bike.

* no insurance cost
* no licensing cost
* park anywhere for free
* coast past traffic jams in rush hour

The level of discrimination versus motorcyclists who are properly licensed, required to carry insurance, and compelled to follow the rules of the road (developed for cages) is crazy...

Especially with regard to insurance -- the recklessness with which some of these e-bikers ride -- and the lack of safety equipment, rider training or ability to enforce rules of the road on them -- all equates to a huge risk versus motorcycles!

A bit of a tangent from the thread, but reforms are required for motorcycle insurance, including:
* where more than one vehicle (car or bike) per person in a household is insured, only pay for the highest vehicle cost for bodily injury, property damage, accident benefits, uninsured automobile -- as one can only drive one vehicle at a time
* similarly, items like minor violation or accident forgiveness should be per-person and not per vehicle (as these items are applied per person to all vehicles insured -- a ticket in your car impacts your bike insurance, etc.)

A further tangent -- if rates were rationalized as per above -- I would TOTALLY be buying another bike or two -- but cost to insure is just too high given current system...

/end rants

Am the second owner of my K7 GSXR600. First time having to replace stator and R/R. Stator was about $260 OEM, R/R is about $150. Stator gasket = $10. Stator cover = $50 on kijiji. All replaceable by yourself with not too much effort.

Haven't had any other problems really, pushing 40k on it so far. The stock brakes aren't very powerful, but it's not like I can't brake properly lol.

One annoying thing with stock GSXRs (it might just be K6/K7) is the TRE thing (mad engine braking in low gears at low RPM) but that can be mitigated with avoiding those bands, being super super steady with the throttle, buying an XTRE, getting a slipon or exhaust system, PC, etc.
