Where to Rent a Cargo Van

CAA is not a vehicle transportation company, they are for emergency roadside assistance. Not saying you can't get around that if the vehicle is somehow stranded and can't start ...
he could pull the battery out "won't start" LOL

I use my minivan for my bikes. Done it 3 times so far. You would be surprised how much room is in them! Roll it up a good piece of wood and tie it dwn to the seat anchors, and voila!

FYI:

Ended up going with Discount for $104 all in with 3000km allowed. That was $10 extra to up it from 200km allowed.

Enterprise does not allow their vehicles to go to the US. And Budget only allowed 100km / day and $0.12 for each additional km.

Hey,

Do you guys think a Ford F-150 will be sufficient to move a Kawasaki ZXR6?

Would appreciate some opinions!

Thanks
i think it'll melt under its own weight ... :D

Obviously enough..

I put my T500 and DT250 in the back of my Ranger together, and F150 will be more than enough.. a zxr6 isnt the world's hugest heaviest motorcycle...

Thanks for the response... seeing as through you have experneice in this, could you lay down a quick strategy on how I would secure the bike?

i.e type of cable/rope, securing the wheels, or anything else...

Thanks again!

Super easy. Roll it right up to the front of the box. Put a Tie down strap, one on each handle bar, or fork - whichever will allow the strap to not interfere with/damage something, to the front corner of the box. crank them down till you pull the suspension all the way down in the front so it wont bounce around. Then a strap from the frame to each back corner. Make sure everything is nice and tight. You should be able to grab the bike, shake it, and the whole truck should move, not the bike... Don't worry about leaving the tail gate down. And keep the bike in gear.

Sit on the bike and tighten (best done with two people - one to tighten). When you get off, the bikes suspension rebound will help keep it tight.

I might need to do this the first week of May 6 & 7th.(Thurs or Fri) I need to head over to Ohio to bring my bike to its new home. Is there anyone who is going in that general direction, who would like to do this together at the same time?:)

I am getting ready to go on my "adventure" to pick up my next bike. This thread was very informative. I think I'll pick up a ramp at Princess Auto, and also rent from Discount. I will have to check if they will let me up the mileage up to 3000km too, as my drive is 265 km one way (Rochester, NY) and i hope to turn around in 1 day.

Any suggestions on how to safely load the bike onto a pickup truck or into a cargo van? Thanks!!

Try to find a ditch or similar depression to back the van into. With the rear wheels of the truck in the low part of the ditch, the loading height of the cargo bed at the back end of the truck is lowered in relation to the ground level overlooking the ditch. With the perfect ditch found, your loading ramp will be very short and it will also be flat going into the cargo bed. You'll easily be able to load the bike yourself without any help.

Try to find a similar unloading ditch at the other end. Even if you can't, rolling a bike down a ramp will be easier than trying to push a bike up a ramp.
