Where to buy some cheap gear?

Im looking to buy some cheap gear so I'll have it for my Motorcycle safety course which is in 2 weeks :D SOOO EXCITED!

I live in oakville, but Im willing to drive within a hour to a good place, any suggestions? (im not sure what size I am, so going to have to figure all that stuff out)

Probably get a helmet and boots for now.

Thanks guys.

If you're just looking for gear for the course and don't have a bike yet, just beg borrow and steal. Hiking boots and a denim jacket etc. If you're looking for gear for your own bike then go out and buy the best gear that you can afford. Helmet, gloves and jacket at a bare minimum. There are tons of threads about the different gear stores around. Royal distributing is a good place for more entry level gear.

you know you can get by with just a jean jacket and garden gloves right ?

When i first started I went to a local store to try on gear (GP bikes or royal distributing). Then tried t find gear on kijiji. A lot of people buy brand new gear for the motorcycle course then never ride afterwards so there's lots of great deals to be had on new gear or like new gear.

When I took my course I didn't have the right boots. Doc's leathers on Queen has a used section upstairs - I got a pair of boots for $15.

I borrow a pair of gloves and used my work steel toe boots for my course as well.
that's all you really need for the course.

but if you want to use the gear after the course, you should look at getting something you like.
Otherwise you will end up throwing the cheap stuff out and buying better stuff in a few months.
Might as well buy the good stuff up front, IMO

if you know your helmet size i have a brand new hjc cs-r2 daggar for sale with free extras (ie: upgrade visor from hj to hj-09 $30-40$ value, and detachable breathe guard, $10 value.) and no tax.

walmart has them leather boots for 30$. leather garden gloves from canadian tire for 5$.

Wow you guys are awesome! I guess I will look online for some used stuff online, I dont have any friends that ride motorcycles tho :( I'll go to the store to check out helmets, if anything ill buy one and use it as a spare later, Im new to all this, but as long as i get a job sometime soon ill be sure to get a 250r this summer.

I'd say that they should be, but I'm not the person that has the say. Wear them to the Thursday class and ask the instructor. You don't want to be the guy who gets told to go home and get proper shoes/boots lol

haha yah i dont want that either :p ill just come in full gear on thursday and sit in class with my helmet on, if they have any objections at least ill know then and not on saturday morning ^_^

For the course the boots need to cover your ankles. Work boots are excellent. I would not recommend a jean jacket only because I fell on the first day and the padding in my jacket protected my elbow and shoulder when I landed (Stupid Newbie grabbing the front brake and falling over). Even at low speed the pavement hurts. Proper gloves are another good addition for the course, keep in mind whatever you are wearing you'll get to put it on and take it off about a hundred times.

+1 to getting gear from others who took the course and haven't ridden since. There is a lot of it on kijiji

As others have mentioned kijiji has some great deals, same with the for sale section here. Google up some size charts for the brands your looking at and start there. Or when looking just ask the sellers what their build is like and compare it to yours.

Thanks guys for all your help! I ended up going to royal distributing and got myself a joe rocket helmet, decided since im going to need a helmet anyways might as well buy a little better one, and not one for $50.00

and if the jacket i have they dont approve to wear ill just go rent one, :) thnx again!
