Where to buy LED's locally?

I'm trying to rig-a-dig something up to my bike that will work as a legal headlight and tail light.

I'm too lazy to change out track bodywork every time I want to ride on the street.

I know I can buy online, but I've left it too late and need this done by Thursday.

Anyone know if Princess Auto or any other place sells LED strips or anything else that I can rig-a-dig up?

Any suggestions?

I used a LED trailer tail light when i was using race bodywork on the street, i got it at PA. Worked good, very bright. They also have a decent selection of small driving lights you can use for a headlight.. don't expect them to throw a lot of light tho.

Okay thanks.

No night riding. Just need to rig something up for the occasional street ride.

How do I hook them up? Is it fairly easy to just plug and play....or is this going to require some knowledge of electrical I clearly don't have.

I made some from LED strips I got at Active Surplus. 1 foot strip was 5 bucks or so.

Look for an electronics surplus near you. They were twelve volt I had to make a connector and attached it to my lights. I use for signals.

You'll need to tap into the headlight power supply for the front. One power and one ground connection. For the tail light there is three connections: running light, brake light and ground.

You can get some splice connectors to tap in. That way you dont have to cut apart your OEM wiring harness.

If you're not comfortable doing it just find someone who is and provide beer. It's not that tough for someone familiar with lighting systems.

Exactly.

I would be happy to help but London is too far.

K-W Surplus has loose ultra bright LEDs pretty cheap. Victoria Street in K-W. Look for the Spitfire on the roof or the Russian tank in the parking lot. Other interesting junk too.

You can get double tang crimp lugs that you could attach to feed your LED wiring. Disconect the original connector, slide on the double and then attach the OEM to the spare tang. No cutting, stabbing or baring of the OEM harness. Reverse to remove. All providing there is room for the extra height of the lugs.

Sorry to thread jack, is it legal to have LED lights lighting the engine running on while riding at night?

I have read and read and no one has a definite answer.
I put some on mine and made sure you can't see any of the LED's just the light and none of it shines in front of my front tire.

As long as they are not a retarded colour (e.g. blue, red, green, yellow) it should be fine. Is your engine afraid of the dark?

White's fine? I've seen mostly with blue. I gotta get confirmation on that.
The engine needs to be seen at nights too. :P While the pipes are installed nest season.

I put blue on mine, Yes I might get pulled over more as they are heatscore but I don't drive like an idiot all the time anyways.
As for the HTA it says no intermittent blue and no blue facing forwards.

From my research no one has a definite answer on if it is legal or not, One of those how you intepuret the HTA.
